How I Met Your Mother ended like it began: Different from each and every other sitcom that made its way into my home. I can't and won't fault it for not giving people what they wanted. That's not how life works, and I think the show made that pretty clear.

How I Met Your Mother ended like it began: Different from each and every other sitcom that made its way into my home. I can't and won't fault it for not giving people what they wanted. That's not how life works, and I think the show made that pretty clear.

It's not about giving the fans what they wanted. It's about having a plan and following through on it.

And it's pretty obvious they didnt have a plan

You're aware they shot the last scene from the beginning, correct? They knew from the very first episode how this show was going to end. Whether you like the plan or not is a different story.

I don't think that's really true at all.

The children's scenes were all shot back in like Season 1 or 2, so they knew from that point that they were going to end with Ted chasing after Aunt Robin one more time.

I think they probably just had a bunch of different "mothers", but had the plan that whoever the "mother" was would end up dying, and Ted would end up with Robin despite still loving the "mother".
