Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
The ending didn't match Ted's character that they setup though.
He doesn't marry the mother for 7 years after getting engaged. Are you kidding, this is Ted and his marriage book, castle, etc. No way he waits 7 years.
He searches his whole life to find the woman he loves and then after she dies, he goes back to Robin.
Basically what they have done is said Robin was truly the love of his life and the mother was just another woman he fell in love with. Robin always had his love and everyone else was just second best. Just Ted trying to cover up his hurt. That doesn't really fit Ted. I would have rather them had Ted breakup Robin and Barney then this.
Plus, wasn't Ted wearing a wedding ring at the end of Trilogy Time when they flashed ahead to 2015?Comment

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
BenGerman, I see where you're coming from.
Spoilerand I do give them credit for bucking sitcom tradition and not having everything wrap up all nice and perfectly, but if ever there was a series and a character that needed that, it would be How I Met Your Mother and Ted. After all the **** the character went through, I don't think it was too much to ask that things fall into place for him. He finally met the perfect girl. The series should have ended with that.
The Barney & Robin storyline...eh, I can kind of swallow. I do hate that Barney just went right back to his same old ways. I agree that they had ALL of this stuff planned out from the first episode, but it really seemed like they just threw things together for the Barney character in the final episode. But we all knew from the beginning that Robin was more invested in her career than she could ever be in her love life.SpoilerStill though....they made finale before even getting to see fans reactions to everything, they'll prob deny it,though in back of their mind they prob would've done things differently about ending had they known fans overall reaction to Ted-Robin,Barney-Robin and everything. Risky move for sure but at least it connected.
It just sucks how the whole 8 seasons was building to how Ted meets the mother,9th season introduces her and makes fans like her, and final episode is just like "Ted met the mother, she dies,Ted loves Robin,Ted and Robin live happily ever after". How I Met Your Mother ends with Ted marrying someone who isn't the mother...I just can't get over that, even if it was Robin.

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
SpoilerI guess, but it's confusing. Are we supposed to think that he loved Robin more than his wife? Or that he loved both of them the same? I dunno maybe I'm a dope for asking these questions. But marrying and having kids with another woman when the real love of your life is out there seems ridiculous.NBA: New York Knicks

In the end, she's basically just another Stella except she got further with Ted. It does make things seem like Ted just settled for the mother after realizing he'd never have Robin.
Ted found out Robin suddenly likes olives and her opinion on stuff can change. It happened same time the mother talked Barney into going after Robin. So seems like Ted-Robin might have happened if it wasn't for the mother in the end. She was basically a 15 year roadblock.
Finale does seem like a slap in the face to a portion of the fanbase. I honestly don't know how I'd be able to watch a rerun of this series knowing how it does end and that so many things that have happened in the series is now absolutely pointless to how the show ended up.

AV Club liked it, Sepinwall did not. Not at all surprised how divisive it has been, and I'm really happy I'm on the half that liked it.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
My take...
SpoilerI called it as soon as Barney had the first "it's great, it's great, it's great" line at McLaren's. I blurted out to my gf "Barney/Robin get divorced and the mother dies and Ted ends up with Robin". The Barney/Robin relationship was a horrible fit from the beginning and it just made no sense. It wasn't believable. I questioned it when they first got together. There was no way it was going to last.
They should have stretched out the last two episodes over the entire season. The whole season was a waste, why dedicate 20+ episodes to a marriage that's over 20 minutes after it happens?
My biggest issue is how quickly they discarded the mother. No funeral, no grieving. Poof, she's gone - back to Robin. Nine seasons of "How I Met Your Mother" and she is so unceremoniously dumped from the show that it feels like a slap in the face to the fans. She's essentially an after-thought.
I think the most annoying part is that the "everything comes full circle" shtick didn't fit well here. Ted and Robin's story happens all the time in real life (until the last 30 seconds). You find someone who's 90% a good fit but it's not good enough to get married. Robin was never what Ted really needed and he outgrew that and realized it. Ted wasn't a perfect fit for Robin either. For Ted it was more like immature puppy love when he fell for Robin in the early seasons. He waited to find the love of his life, a true perfect fit, and eventually he found her.
I just get the feeling that Ted grew so much that he would be unhappy in relationship with Robin in his 40's. Plus is Robin going to suddenly stop being a globe-hopping reporter to settle down with Ted? That's not like her at all. The ending was just forced and didn't fit - seemed like a plot twist for the sake of having a plot twist.
I never thought it would happen but there's now a series finale that I dislike more than LOST's. Same type meandering, borderline aimless plot. Same type of weak ending.Last edited by ehh; 03-31-2014, 09:50 PM."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

A majority of us HAVE used spoilers.
And I feel for you on having the episode "ruined". However, if you hadn't seen the episode, why even chance it by entering a forum where a majority of the people commenting will have seen it?
