Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Coming into a discussion thread right after a major series ended and expecting everyone to keep every detail in a spoiler is absolutely ridiculous. West coast or not, the vast majority of the country has already seen it. Staying out of the thread would have been the obvious solution to your problem.Kansas City Royals | FC Barcelona | New Orleans Pelicans

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
It's not ruined, the ending is partly what I expected. I just wanted to draw my own conclusions based on people's reactions before I watched it with my GF.
Now I have to pretend I don't know what happensComment

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Looking back on past episodes/seasons, I guess finale basically says that:
Spoiler
Marshall wins the bet with him and Lily
The "never invite your ex to a wedding" thing still holds true(Robin had Ted at her wedding,Ted had Robin at his,and both of them ended up single)
The "3 day rule" still holds true(Ted did call mother right away, and they didn't live happily ever after....)
Nothing good ever happens after 2am rule has confusing parts(Ted went to Robins at end of series after 2am it looks like which would be considered good, but the mother might have died after 2am? Speaking of which...the mother died when the kids were just like 7-8 years old, even sadder thinking about now!)
Victoria was right all along! No matter what happens in Teds life,he'd NEVER get over Robin.
Robin somehow moved back into her exact same apartment and got dogs again?
The mother telling Ted to "not live through his stories" is an even sadder line to think about now.
2024 flash forward scene as I said before is now the saddest scene in the show. Marshalls dad dying was sad,but 2024 scene turns out to be Ted/Mother sharing one last big moment before she dies, with both of them knowing it too.
Kids seemed fine about their mother dying? I know it's 6 years since she died, but is their father telling them about how he met her, considered a punishment(since that is what they asked in the pilot)? I could understand them being like "We already heard the story" and Ted just being like "But I haven't told you all the moments I've told your mother" or something like that
One of the reasons people said the mother is dead theory wouldn't work is cause Ted might have said something like "you could ask your mother about this" in one of the future ted lines...I wonder if anyone(not on this site, but on one of those bigger fan crazed site) will go back and listen to all the future ted quotes and see if he ever did say that(since they knew from beginning she was dead, but you never know..maybe a line like that was thrown in?).

I don't mind the creators sticking to a plan, but it was executed so poorly it just cheapens everything.Good job! Good effort!Comment

Same applies to everything really. If you don't watch something big during it's first airing on TV(even if it's in a diff timezone), just stay off the internet. Twitter, facebook, website forums and stuff are all running wild with spoilers. I skipped a show to watch HIMYM finale and because of HIMYM ended, I didn't watch the show on my DVR after the finale, and now I'm trying to avoid those spoilers like crazy while still talking about HIMYM and reading peoples comments on twitter.Comment

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
SpoilerIt seems more like the mother was basically just another girl for Ted. In the end, she's basically just another Stella except she got further with Ted. It does make things seem like Ted just settled for the mother after realizing he'd never have Robin.
Ted found out Robin suddenly likes olives and her opinion on stuff can change. It happened same time the mother talked Barney into going after Robin. So seems like Ted-Robin might have happened if it wasn't for the mother in the end. She was basically a 15 year roadblock.
Finale does seem like a slap in the face to a portion of the fanbase. I honestly don't know how I'd be able to watch a rerun of this series knowing how it does end and that so many things that have happened in the series is now absolutely pointless to how the show ended up.
SpoilerThat was really the big issue I had with it too. They rushed through the episode so quickly that it left us feeling like the Mother wasn't really a big deal to Ted at all. In reality, 6 years passed since the loss of the Mother, and I assume Ted was extremely broken up about it. It would have been a more emotional finale if we got to see Ted battle his way through all of that to finally get to the place where he could move on and retry things with Robin, but then that might have made the finale too depressing since a lot of viewers were hoping to finally see Ted be happy only to see him have to go through that heartache all over again. Instead, they basically fastforwarded their way through Ted's entire love life with the Mother that was supposedly his true love; just makes it feel insignificant.NFL: Bills

Then 6 years later the ending makes better sense and would be more acceptable. It's not just another woman for Ted like it seemed.

Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Does anyone know what interviews the actors and/or producers will be in within next few days? I remember when Friends ended, Oprah did this big thing having an interview with abunch of the cast together again(1-2 couldn't make it cause of their current commitments to other shows). I know Cobie is gonna be on an interview tonight(I'm DVRing it) but I want to see if anyone else is appearing. Would be nice to hear comments from them now that the show is over and they can openly talk about everything in the show now.
SpoilerAnd why she was barely featured at all. The knew from the start the intention of series was for Ted-Robin to be together, and the mother was never intended to be in lots of stuff to begin with.
Something else I thought about....Ted and Robin are horrible people in the end?
Ted blows up at Barney for sleeping with Robin(Teds EX)
Barney moved on from Robin and went out with Nora. Their relationship was fine until Robin messed it up.
Robin was reason they got divorced(cause of her devotion to work)
Teds wife dies,he tells his kids stories about how he met her,but it turns out to be story about how he's still in love with Robin and years later he goes and gets back together with(and probably marries) Robin(who is not only Barneys EX,she's his ex-WIFE)
I wonder what part specifically Cobie(Robin) cried at. I remember months ago when hearing that story about how she found out the ending, and she started crying and stuff at it.
Maybe tears of joy or something(Ted-Robin ending up together), or sad at a moment like Barney-Robin getting divorced, or Robin basically abandoning the group, or that the mother died?

Agree with AV Club on so many things, but this sums it up pretty well for me:
"So we all had our ideas about what would best close out this show and say goodbye to the characters, finish their journeys. But really, for me, there’s only one thing that needs to happen to fulfill the show’s promise. Ted needs to be happy."
