Re: How I Met Your Mother: Season 9 (The Final Season)
Spoiler
I had hoped that I would go to sleep and when I woke up, I could look at things a little more objectively, and take the finale for what it was. But, I actually hate the idea of Robin & Ted being together even more now than I did last night.
They just don't fit. Is this whole show a lesson in settling? "Hey, Robin, look..we're both in our 50s now and I know you haven't found the love of your life, and the love of my life is dead...maybe we should just be together."
Again, I have to preface all of my opinions with the statement - I wanted Robin & Barney to be together. That doesn't seem to be the general consensus in here, but I really did. Two people that it really didn't seem like should work out. Two people both completely independent, yet willing to push all of that aside because they love each other.
I just can't stand that half of season 8 and all of season 9 were just **** on within the first 20 minutes of the series finale. Even if people had a doubt about Robin & Barney, most of season 8 and all of this season served as sort of a way to show that yes, these two have changed and can work out. And the reason they got divorced - um, you would think that the travelling and the schedule would have come up in at least one conversation prior to the wedding.
Also, why spend most of the last 2 seasons FINALLY allowing Ted to get over Robin, only to put them back together in the very end? He was ready to move on. He hadn't met the mother yet, so he wasn't just moving on because he had met someone else. He had moved on, so that he could meet someone else. So why would he, after 9 years with the mother, and 6 more since her death, which means about 15 years being OVER Robin, why would he go back to her, just like that?
Seeing people talk about it so much in here, I'm really on board with the idea that the wedding should have only taken up half of the season, with some episodes in between wedding episodes to show How Your Mother Met Me. Then, spend the last 8 or 9 episodes on what the Finale ended up being.
I knew that all of the scenes with the kids were shot during seasons 1 and 2, but I wasn't aware that the final scene was shot back then, too. Guess they just didn't want to waste it? Still, so many little things don't match up. How the hell was Robin living back in an apartment that I can't remember her living in since like season 3 or 4 - whenever she moved in with Don. After that, she moved in with Ted. Then she moved in with Barney, right? She somehow moved back into the exact same apartment, 20 years later? And for a woman that is travelling around the world all the time, how can she possibly find time to keep that many dogs?!
Also, why film a final season that could come years later? Did they not expect the show to last 7 more seasons?
Maybe I'm just biased because I so hated the idea of Ted & Robin being together. I would get so pissed any time it would seem like Ted was going to make a run at Robin, and try to ruin what she had with Barney.
Okay, at this point, I'm just venting and ranting.
