    Under The Dome (CBS)

While doing a DVR guide check for a quick recording of anything I could find I ran across "Under The Dome". I referenced this show months ago in some thread, but forgot about. Anyway, I hit record, but found out it was the 6th episode. So I look around and saw that Amazon has the streaming rights. I start watching (free using my $79 per year Prime membership) and a few hours later I'm done with the sixth episode and have nothing else to watch. I was surprised it was that good.

    Here's the Wikipedia synopsis:

Under the Dome tells the story of the residents of the small town of Chester's Mill, who suddenly find themselves cut off from the rest of the world by a mysterious, impenetrable (but semipermeable) barrier that surrounds the town. As the town begins to tear itself apart through panic, a small group of people attempt to maintain peace and order while also trying to uncover the truth behind the barrier and how to escape from it.

Highly recommended. Dean Norris (Hank, Breaking Bad) is great in this and the overall character development is very good. I keep doing a double take as one of the main characters is portrayed by an actress who is a dead ringer for Debra Messing ("Will And Grace").

i don't necessarily like the show, but i watch it to give Amazon some ratings on the show. So they can use the ratings and help them get the streaming rights of better shows in the future.

I hate the whole Junior drama. Makes me wanna break the TV and burn my house. Junior is probably one of the worst character written, in the history of TV shows.

Which is such a shame, because he's one of the best written characters in the book.

I guess Im in the minority, I absolutely hate the show and find that its one of the worst shows Ive seen in awhile. Like was mentioned previously, the Junior character is just flat stupid, the new "sheriff" making him a cop is beyond far fetched, hes suddenly cop material because of one bs speach he spewed while standing gaurd at the hospital? The red head annoys me to no end, everytime she speaks it has this weird, robotic feel to it like shes reading a cue card and not really acting if that makes any sense. Unfortunately Im stuck watching it as the girlfriend and her Son want to see it but even she is starting to sour on it, its just poorly written, poorly acted and a poor show overall but like I said, apparently Im in the minority.

I watched the first episode of this show and I found it to be okay. I may have to give it another shot, but we'll see. The premise is pretty ridiculous, but if the story is decent, then I can get over that.

No, apparently I am , LOL.

Junior might not be the best character (yet), but he is a means to at least one end, setting up a probable agreement with Big Jim
                    Spoiler

The most interesting thing about Junior is the relationship with his Dad, and I think it will bear even more fruit as the show moves on. Admittedly I was a little baffled at Junior's deputization. You could write it off as some sort of nepotism or the sheer considerable will of his dad, but he got the blessing of a seemingly competent de facto police chief. Of course, she was desperate.

I originally thought it was able to rain because the dome was high enough to house the existing atmosphere.

I started watching this because I enjoyed the book and could imagine a cool version of it for TV. But I am now watching it purely for the hilarity of just how bad the writing and acting is.

I think it has to set the record for worst produced TV show to ever get a second season.

MetaCritic does give it generally favorable reviews, and we do have two people on this thread watching it who don't even like it, so that explains the good ratings.

And of course every critic, professional or otherwise has an opinion.

LOL well if Im one of those 2 I should point out Im more forced to watch it as there is one TV and the girlfriend and her Son are into the show for some unknown reason. Like I said, shes souring on it as well as I catch her looking at me numerous times during the show either laughing or rolling her eyes at something that just happened but shes also the type to see something through until the end so Ill be watching until the end whether I like it or not.

I was interested in the show but once a second season was announced I'm glad we didn't start it. I figured the novel could be portrayed across ten or so hours, which would be a great precedent for summer network TV (full stories in a single multi-week push). Now it's just the typical drag out until the ratings slip and then cancel it without a conclusion or rush the ending.
