Doing that would mean spoiling the ending for Martin's own books. I doubt he would want/allow that to happen unless he can't finish his books.

Martin might not want it, but he has no say on the matter. HBO owns the rights and can do whatever they please. They've already consulted with Martin about the ending of the series.

Martin has already told the HBO show runners/writers how the books will end should something happen to him. No sense in taking a show with great numbers and waiting around on Martin to finish the books when they already know what is going to happen IMO.

I would much rather read the books than watch on TV, but at this point I will take what I can get.

The over/under for Martin kicking the bucket is 3 1/2 years.........You know HBO told him to get a gitty up on the end game.

He has a pretty big hand in directing the show as well. I am sure he told them about the ending, but hard to say if someone could deliver his vision if he were not around to help oversee the project.

True, but the show isn't really his "vision". Its his ideas trimed, edited, changed and morphed to fit 10 hours of television every season.

I think he's had quite a bit of say of the costumes, sets, etc. I would also imagine he approved the actors and their demeanor. My understanding is that he has been very hands on and they have accommodated as much as they could.
