Re: The Walking Dead (Season 4)

I think Rick made the final decision for sending Carol on her way with the way she acted toward the two. He wanted them to stay and she continued to tell them to go out. I feel like if she would have kept her mouth shut, all four of them would be on their way back to camp.

I always love how they introduce a character...what little you see of them makes you excited about their character arc....only for them to die later in the episode.

Introducing characters only for them to completely disappear isn't the show's M.O. though, which is why I posed the question.

As for this season, meh. One of the main problems I have with this show is the triumph of Rick over vastly more interesting and enthralling characters (Shane in Season 2, the Governor in Season 3) and the banishment of Carol is just another step in that process. Ideally, Carol would have shot Rick, said that Rick died heroically while trying to save her from a zombie hoard, and another character would have emerged as the protagonist of the show, but it's never going to happen.

If Rick had a cooler kid, I'd be on board with them killing Rick off.

Because I'm assuming that if that happened, they'd switch a lot of the focus more towards Carl. And he just annoys me most times when he's on camera.

That's just awful. That just makes Carol despicable since she has no reason at all to do that.

Killing off Rick would be show suicide and there's no single character of more interest to me than Rick.

And Rick didn't banish Carol. He gave her his preference and advice, but he did not force her to go away. He said he wasn't going to lie to the group about what happened and when Tyreese finds out, he might kill her. He gave her the best possible option while leaving Carol a window to come back.

Carl was so annoying the first two seasons, but he's actually one of the cooler characters now. Rick keeps babying him, so he can't prove he's a great shot. Eventually he's gonna snap out because he's tryna kill some zomb's.

Technically he did force her to go away for the time being whenever he locked the car door and didn't let her in.

Killing 2 people, no questions asked, is awful as well. Considering where she started (helpless mother) and the progression of her character throughout the show, that would be a plausible endpoint for her.

I was spitballing though. My general point is that Rick is a weak main character.

It's like they didn't introduce Rick to the group right. One moment Shane's in charge and then Rick shows up and takes lead automatically.
