Eh. If I was getting booed and heckled at my job I'd probably stop working, too. I think its a cop out when people say "its part of that job." BS it is. Its disrespectful and that's it.

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
Being heckled comes with being a comedian, it's just part of it. If he can take it then maybe he shouldn't be doing stand-up. However, I place the majority of the blame on the club owners. You have to control the people who get loud, if they get out of hand, then have them removed. By not controlling the people that were interrupting, then Dave escalating things the way he did, then of course others are going to start piling on. It just seems like a poorly handled and extremely unprofessional situation for everyone involved. I know if I would have been there, I would have been pissed (more so because of the hecklers). I would definitely want my money back.My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
It wasn't at a club though where you have a controlled environment. It was more of a festival where there were a bunch of drunk fratbros screaming "I'M RICK JAMES BITCH". He tried stopping them, they wouldn't listen. I don't blame him one bit.Comment

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
At first I was going to say "cocaine is a helluva drug" as it reminds of the time when Sammy Davis Jr. was so blitzed on coke he went out said "hello Cleveland" (It was Toronto I think) sang a song and left.
This however is a whole lot different and it sounds to me like the audience were acting foolish right from the jump so I don't blame him for doing what he did though the whole "I make millions/private jet" thing was a bit on the egotistical side. That's unfortunately, the double edged sword of creating a show that basically became the personification of your career. You're gonna be dogged by it until you create something bigger/better.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
So you know why one of the reasons Dave stopped doing standup and his show was people would go to his stand up shows and just shout catchphrases from his TV show at him? First ten minuets that's what people in the crowd were doing. After fifteen minuets of trying to get them to quiet down and getting a few jokes done he basically said "Screw it, i'm obligated for 25 minuets and once that's up i'm out" And started to talk to a few of the people in the crowd. After that people started to leave and boo. A few people who were walking past me were shouting "You Suck" And such. Most memorable shout from the crowd at Dave gave up was "I go to collage, I paid for this."
I'ts clear once he knew he couldn't get the crowd to shut up, any joy he had doing comedy was just sucked out of him and it really sucks to see that.
If anyone who works on the Tour or performs on the tour reads these forums. Just please tell him to not give up and I hope the other shows aren't like this. On behalf of CT I really am sorry. It's rare I feel ashamed for my home state but here it is.I was at this show and all I can really say is that the people at this show were a great example of why I hate this state.
There were a great amount of people inside (it was a semi outdoor venue) that came with a motive. They came to bark out stupid **** to Dave that has not been relevant for about a decade. They came to get drunk and heckle Dave. One woman right in front of the mic stand continued to plug her book all night to the comics. Once Dave grabbed the book about 15 minutes into his set, I knew that I just lost the opportunity to see a legend do his stand up. I've known about these walk offs that occasionally happen with Chappelle, but they always felt like stuff you think wouldn't happen to you.
The venue was full of Bros. The people up front had clearly never been to a stand up in a small venue. This wasn't a WWE show, your job as a listener at a comedy show is to...listen, laugh, clap. I ****ing hate when people talk during a set. I understand it was a big venue, but have some ****ing respect.
I was sitting on the lawn watching this all happen with everyone else back there. It seemed as if everyone up front didnt realize what they were doing. The lawn was completely silent and in shock. People stared at the stage with blank faces as people "inside" continued to heckle this man as if he were an animal. They were there to laugh AT Dave and not WITH him.
Sorry if my post is all over the place, but I am extremely embarrassed to be one of the people from this state that was inside that venue. This is something that will stay with me for a while as I have a great amount of respect for comedians and especially ones that have shown they have perfected their craft.Last edited by Steven20; 08-30-2013, 04:34 PM.Comment

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
A lot of drunk people doing it......yeah good luck trying to get dozens of drunk people removed in a timely manner. By the time they were removed, his time limit of his set would have been over with anyway.Comment

Refusing to do your set and then just sitting there reading a paper is a meltdown. It's a tantrum of 3 year old proportions.Comment

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
How exactly is he supposed to do his set with people shouting decade old catchphrases at him constantly?
And why would he do new material for a crowd that clearly only wants to hear him spout said decade old catchphrases?Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
If Dave was throwing a tantrum then the crowd was acting like a bunch of newborns with the lungs of opera singers.
In any case the crowd got their money's worth. They obviously weren't there to see him perform. They were just there to act like drunken jackasses. So Dave let them act like drunken jackasses.
See the thing is, you don't get to be absolved from responsibility just because you pay money. Thier responsibility was to shut up and let the performer perform (or boo if he/she/they sucked). They decided to act a different way, and the consequence was Dave doing nothing.
If anyone should find someone to be mad at go track down the people who made that evening miserable and demand they pay you back.Comment

Not only is it annoying to the performer, it's also annoying to everyone that's trying to enjoy the show.

Re: WTF is wrong with Dave Chappell??
After reading the articles posted in here(which hit the nail on the head, especially that Ebony article) and some of the other first hand accounts from people that were there, I fail to see how he's in the wrong.
Unless they want to play the "I paid money, so do as I say and take what I give you" card, at which point they pretty much lost that the second they decided to act like d-bags while he was trying to give his performance.
People have no one else to blame but their fellow CT'ers because all of that could've been avoided if they would've STFU and if I paid money to see this, those would be the people I would be more pissed at.#RespectTheCultureComment
