I already said how it was BS.

Probably every stand up comic has dealt with an unruly crowd, and more than not bombed because of it, but what they didn't do was be a pantywaist and quit.

I don't agree, Chappelle had an opportunity to justifiably troll the **** out of the everyone in that audience and it seems like he did it perfectly.

If this were the late 70s/early 80s I could only imagine the sheer amount of tears some of you guys would have shed over the stuff that Andy Kaufman used to pull off.

Larry Miller talked about Andy Kaufman in one of his podcasts. Apparently, Andy would start singing "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall," and when the audience realized that he intended to sing all 99 verses they would get pissed. (Especially when he pretended to lose count and start over from the beginning.)
Of course people shouted. A lot of people walked out. But, as Larry Miller tells it, the ones that stuck it out got more and more excited, started singing along. Excitement builds up as they get into the teens, the single digits. And everybody just went nuts when they finished the song. Explosion of joy.
And I just read on Wikipedia that later in his career, Andy would do the same routine, but stop with just 5 or 6 bottles left. Which is why I support inducting Andy Kaufman into the Trolling Hall of Fame.

I assume everyone already knows his "Great Gatsby" bit, so I won't bother posting it.

I know I'm dredging up and old topic, but totally on his side on this. Dude has been a comedian since he was, what 15 years old? Or younger? And his career became defined by an insanely good show for just two or three years of his life. And people just want him to keep doing that over and over again.

It's like Billy Joel and how he might roll his eyes whenever a fan wants him to play Piano Man. I know I'd eventually get sick to death of people demanding I do one thing over and over again my entire life, no matter how good at it I was or how much I was getting paid.

Plus, a heckler or two in a crowd of a hundred is one thing, but dozens of people braying like a stuck mule is another.

his stand up set was hilarious. Not quite his best work, but had a great time. He brought up Hartford a few times and threw "F" Hartford shirts into the crowd. Fun times.

What happened in CT is exactly the reason Chappelle stopped doing what was essentially the best comedy sketch show in history of cable television.

As for Andy Kauffman. I started reading up on him a couple months ago and with every story I grow more and more a fan of his. I wish he were alive today (maybe he is!!!) so he could keep being Andy.

I still think about his Mighty Mouse performance on SNL and how little people knew at the time that it was only the beginning of his trolling entertainment bit.*

*I know he was already trolling before that, but I mean as a big time celebrity.

For those in NY, Chappelle will be performing at Radio City Music Hall from June 18-24th in case anyone wants to catch him. He also said on Jimmy Fallon's Show that he'll have Nas and The Roots performing at one of his shows as well.

If I was still in NY, I'd be all over this in a heart beat.

Im going! Busta Rhymes and Janelle Monae are suppose to be performing at the show Im going to. Monae was enough but Dave and Busta make it even better.

Its funny I just read this thread and thought it would be awesome to go, then 10 mins later my mom random calls me and said she got tickets. Muahahahahaha!
