I think the biggest issue with the film is simply a lack of lighthearted, memorable moments to break up all the seriousness. It would have been better reviewed had there been more "heart" to it in regards of some joking around to break the tension I think, ESPECIALLY because it was such a long movie.
Note: I speak as a semi-comic book, "casual" fan which I believe to be the majority of the movie going audience not the hard-core "his pants are slightly too high on his right side and it's missing a stripe" crowd...
As for the comic book die-hards, I feel sorry for them because I'm sure they saw a ton of things that make them unhappy, but then again, those people are rarely satisfied with even the greatest of movies because things are changed so not surprised by that..
