To think breaking bad's first season was 7 episodes... Crazy

But at least next season is a 13 episode order

What are the ratings for this?

I'm hoping the ratings/reviews are amazing and it runs the full course.

I know the debut was like the highest rated debut ever or something like that. I can't remember the exact wording but it was a big deal and it sounds like the ratings have been pretty good overall.

The ratings have been about a 2.5 which is better than Breaking Bad ever was (usually a 1.5) until people started caring in season 5 (when it was consistently in the 5s during the second half of season 5).

Great episode to end a sadly short season.

Episode ruled. Whole season ruled. Show just flat out rules.

I absolutely loved the nod to Breaking Bad this week...

                    Re: Better Call Saul

I found the ending of the episode a bit rushed and awkward. A lot of the episode was too on the head. A lot of exposition, a lot of Jimmy talking as if the audience needed their hands held.

It was written by Peter Gould so I'll assume it's his writing style.

Saying that, I still loved the episode. I loved how different it was from the rest of the season. It definitely gravitated toward giving us a look into Jimmy's past and putting us in the front seat of the ensuing crash between his past and new direction.

His acknowledgment, "I know what stopped me and I won't let it stop me again," is more of the same in the episodes's direct dialogue, but the only phrase that hits home with the Breaking Bad audience.

I do feel that anyone watching the show without having seen Breaking Bad is missing a lot of information that is assumed for the audience. Is the opening of the first episode enough information for a new viewer to gather what Jimmy becomes? Isn't the ending of the episode only a nod to an audience that knows and a nauseating open-ended cliffhanger for a less-informed viewer?

Other than that, it was a great season. It paid lip-service to the long-time fans. I just wish it did more for the new ones.

I started watching this before ever seeing a single Breaking Bad episode (Just finished season 1 of BB today) and I could not love this show more than I do. In fact, comparing season 1 of Breaking Bad to Better Call Saul, Saul is MUCH more enjoyable to me.

I have heard season 2 of Breaking Bad is better though.

BB just gets better and better, it would be hard for Saul to top it since BB is the pinnacle of TV
