Re: Game of Thrones: Season 5 (aka A Feast for Crows + A Dance with Dragons)

This is the only show I've seen where basically the entire episode was scenes that played out in ways that the audience has differing opinions as to what really happened.

I feel like most of the season finales are like this, but not to this extent. It almost felt like the goal was to confuse the audience rather than setup cliffhangers. Just seemed odd to me.

It shall be known as the great "Are They Dead or Not" episode lol.

So basically if Jon is brought back he will become immortal? Is this really what ya'll want to see?
This show always try to make you feel sorry for scoundrels. I don't fall for it. Take Theon for example. He burned 2 little kids to a crisp, he deserves what he got. Jamie Lannister, yeah, they are trying to turn him into comedy relief now, but he's a wretch. Cersie deserves Theon treatment, I'd be happy if she was a sniveling little reak.

Pretty much the only character in GOT that has had any screen time that doesn't have any blood on their hands is Samwell Tarley.

Even our precious little Sansa sold out for Joffrey which started her slippery decline.

Pretty sure it's just Bran. Jon and Arya haven't had any wolf dreams like they do in the books.

Oh, Cersei will do something mean, petty, and shortsighted, but taking back the power she ceded to the Faith Militant is likely to prove far more difficult than giving it to them was. I fully expect to see the decline of House Lannister continue.

In fairness Jaime is no longer that person. Losing his sword hand may have been the best thing that ever happened to him.

Seeing as the only other option seems to be watching the WW's wipe out everybody in Westeros, yes.

              Whoa.

She was a young girl alone in enemy territory. What other options did she have?

I don't get how bringing Jon Snow back will be a disney moment for the show... is it because he's a character everyone likes?

This is a show with dragons born after a human character should have been burnt to a crisp with them, frozen zombie armies with the ability to revive the dead into zombie form, not to mention giants, and face changers. People have already been brought back from the dead as well. Bringing JS back isn't about the good guy not being killed off or satisfying the masses for me, but rather bringing his story to an actual conclusion in relation to the substance that's been teased in the books, and to a lesser extent the show.

Prior to going to kings landing, she sold out her sister and backed Joffreys lie which led to the death of the butchers boy and dire wolf.

If I recall, Ned Stark told Arya that what Sansa did was the right thing.

Considering that the entire family either died horrible deaths, are crippled, tortured or blind except for Rikken, I don't think Ned Stark had a good grasp of what the right thing was then.

Either way, she supported a lie and it led to an innocent child's death she isn't without fault or flaws.

Jaime may be a changed person, but that doesnt absolve him of his past heinous acts. I wont forget what characters have done in the past just because the narrative paints them in a different light episodes or seasons later.

WW should wipe out the terrible world that is Westeros. I cant think of many reasons why this place shouldnt be destroyed.

Oh please. Robb had a destiny Ned had a destiny, Stannis had a destiny, Robert Baratheon had a destiny etc etc and when they died they died. Jon Snow has a destiny and dies, but because its Jon Snow and his mystical parentage is apparently the deus ex machina/plot armor that it is, he gets to be brought back to resolve his destiny? Its bull**** man. Nothing in the books or show supports this Beauty and the Beast revive the hero nonsense that other stories tell. This is the same book/show series that goes out of its way to **** on the hero concept. What makes Jon Snow different? How is that not completely uncharacteristic of this work? The reviving of the dead hero is something pulled RIGHT OUT OF DISNEY and other 'heroes always win' stories in history. GoT pretended to be above that...until now. GRRM was suppose to be better than that. If Jon was suppose to be the hero from day one, then you shouldnt have killed him off. Whats next, Sansa and company are gonna go look for the dragon balls to wish him back to life? Wtf

I think you sort of make your own point in that if Jon does come back he is special. He isn't like Robb, Ned, or anyone else who thinks they have a destiny. He didn't think he had a destiny he was just being the best lord commander he can be, and if he gets brought back he might start to realize his destiny which could be the point of the whole series.

A song of ice and fire stark/targaryen, Jon snow could be both, and he could be the only one to save westeros. At the end of the day, it's a story there will be an ultimate "winner" for the story to end, there will be a hero, that's how stories work, even ones that take 6 books or 6 seasons to identify it.

I feel like GoT has soured kingkilla and he's become jaded & bitter over it all lol.

I can feel the angst in his posts, it's like GoT trolled him and he took the bait.

If Jon returns then he returns, it's been a great run so far.

Agreed. I'm indifferent about him being revived but to say there isn't precedent and to ignore pretty pointed signs in the books/show that JS is special is sort of odd to me.

If he comes back he comes back and his "special status" holds more weight and hope for westeros. If not GOT probably switches the narrative to the mass destruction of westeros by the hands of the WW. Either way i'll be watching/reading.

I mean chances are one of these guys is going to be the "hero" fighting against the WW, question is who is it going to be.

George RR Martin himself said that he's read some fan speculation as to the whole endgame of the series and says some fans have got it right. He then posed himself the question - does he continue the narrative that he constructed knowing that some people have figured it out, or does he change it just for the sake of swerving from people's expectations and disregard the building blocks he laid out? His answer: it would be a disservice to the fans and to the story to swerve for the sake of swerving.

The path has been laid for Jon Snow (big mystery of his parentage; receiving a special weapon; Melisandre's interest in his "King's" blood; stuff in the books that the show hasn't touched upon), so it's not some deus ex machina/Disney fantasy to see him come back.
