The thing about the CW superhero shows is that once they decide that they want to have certain character arcs and storylines go a particular way, they don't care about all of the out of character behaviors and illogical decision making they have write into the story to make it happen.

Legends is the best at limiting this behavior, Black Lightning is too new to make a judgement on, but Supergirl, Flash, and Arrow(the worst) are really bad at doing this.

I remembered he shot "Overgirl" (Nazi-Supergirl) with a kryptonite arrow, but I must have forgot the part about him hoarding ""K"" to deal with a bad Supergirl.

To be fair, lots of shows do that. For some it's easier to change things up because they don't have the season long storylines. Though CW shows definitely do have commitment to the story they're running regardless what people think of it. That's something I liked about the new Agents of Shield format they did starting in S4. You have multiple arcs so it's almost like multiple seasons in one.

I never thought about it before, but why does Reign wear a mask? Does she even need to protect her identity? And funny that Ruby sees her up close, doesn't recognize her, but the minute the mask is off, she knows that's her mom.


Guess they're still committed to having Mon El staying around again. I don't think he's needed at all.


I've been thinking it during this episode and even before, so it's funny that it finally happened, but we finally see Kara back for the final scene. I think they've had her as Supergirl for past few episode exclusively. Finally get the Lena-Kara conversation! For a moment I thought Lena suspected Kara is Supergirl based on the way she was looking at Kara. Nice way to build tension between those two. If/When Lena vs Kara/Supergirl happens, they really need to make it a big story. All these seeds planted for an eventual faceoff needs to have best payoff.

The first rule of flimsy superhero/supervillain secret identities* is that they always work and Reign's mask is above flimsy level and decently concealing.

*Kara-Supergirl for example.

I never thought Lena suspected that Kara was Supergirl. Her not knowing and currently at odds with Supergirl is a great dynamic. In tonight's episode, there is more great Supergirl-Lena friction.

Do you think a Supergirl-Lena faceoff will put Ms. Luthor in a villain/criminal status?

EDIT: After thinking about it for a few seconds I think Lena will "break bad" if her other friends and Jimmy abandon her and the reason they would is if she can't get a handle on her newfound hostility for Supergirl.

Lena/Supergirl friction is great but I don't buy that Supergirl can't understand the need for earth to have some way to defend themselves against people like her if they ever need to. Kryptonians and their god complex............

I don't think Lena should become a villain, but it would be more like Lena vs Kara with a villain coming between them(and both of them having their own ways of battling the villain).




Lena stuff this week was good too. They should go more in depth with that. Kara-Lena relationship with Kara having to act like everything is ok, and then the Supergirl-Lena relationship where Supergirl isn't her friend, Lena doesn't like/trust her, and Supergirl can't bring up any of Lenas feelings about Supergirl that she found out about as Kara. So many layers to that.


The James story was abit surprising at first despite this show touching on real life issues in the past. Still didn't think they'd bring in something like that on the show. I wonder if this might all be to set up some kind of Black Lightning crossover?



The Lena-Kara moment I was talking about before is the one in the pic attached here. It's probably nothing, but that look she gives Kara when Kara is talking about Supergirl, to me it looks like Lena knows, but just wants to hear Kara out on her Supergirl comments.

The James story was abit surprising at first despite this show touching on real life issues in the past. Still didn't think they'd bring in something like that on the show. I wonder if this might all be to set up some kind of Black Lightning crossover?

I think it's just the show's tendency to highlight social and important issues (same-sex relationships, Alzheimer's for example).

I saw someone posted a casting call for a new character(looks to be a regular) in S4. That character will go much further into social topics and I think could bring up controversy(from the public) too simply for the type of person they are. Casting seems to be authentic, so it won't be someone pretending.

The occasional preaching won't sour me on the show although last nights was particularly blatant and annoying and this is from someone that's sympathetic to the cause. It permeated the entire episode.

The good news is there wasn't much to distract from. Reign is defeated instantaneously but the viewer knows that the black rock is a Trojan Horse, Supergirl foregoes her responsibilities and decides to live in "Little Krypton" indefinitely, Mon-el-Kara is reignited, and the "world killer trio" convoluted storyline is brought front and center again.

I have to confess I'm lost as to how Supes & Mon-el were somehow tricked into bringing back the Trojan Horse substance. It couldn't be a coincidence so I know I missed something.

Supergirl has identified its base and is putting the pedal to the metal. The sexual harassment/showrunner controversy seems to have heightened its social awareness.

Don't think this is exactly the type of show which needs something like that. If it was a major show on a big network then maybe an episode could have an impact, but a superhero show on CW, don't think that message will be so effective.


One thing I have liked recently on the show is that they're adding licensed music to the background for certain moments. It helps add to the moment alot. And it was cool in this episode to have them almost recreate the very opening scene of the season. Almost like that dream was her seeing into the future.

If you read the spoiler post about the character they're casting for next season, that will no doubt cause some controversy as well. It's one thing to try and make it some kind of groundbreaking casting decision, but it can just as easily lead to backlash from people and then this show doesn't even become about Supergirl anymore, it is a show dealing with more social issues and discussions about the show which have nothing to do with superheros.


On the note about "It's time to start writing for a superhero show", that's what CW needs to go back to. Make these superhero shows again. Not "__ and friends" where the friends and their lives become focus of the show and the superhero aspect of the show is almost secondary.

That's an understatement.

The two episodes left could change my mind a bit but so far I've liked this season a little more than the disastrous Flash season 3 starring Savitar.
