I'm hoping they don't hold anything back in the movie as far as everything from what wwharton brought up and their relationship with Jerry Heller towards the end.

I read a review where they sugar coated a lot and didn't mention stuff like the Dee Barnes assault

Separate note, I'd much rather watch this, Biggie or 8 Mile than Get Rich Or Die Trying or some other crappy movie that is starring rappers.
I get it...the fake stereotype rap stuff lol

I just hope this passes as quick as it comes. No need to rescucitate the ridiculous amount of people getting pumped up to start acting a fool and while you think people are smart enough to not do it, just check the recent news, i beg to differ.

It actually met some of my expectations and then some. The pace in certain parts was way off, but they tackled a lot more than I was expecting them to, so I can see why they sped through some stuff. Like I knew that they were going to tackle the breakup, Eazy's relationship with Jerry, and the Detroit show (which was greatly exaggerated), but I didn't think that they would tackle the Watts riots and Dre's fallout with Death Row. And man, they didn't hold anything back with their portrayal of Suge Knight. I mean, jeeeeeeeeeeesus.

There's also a lot of unexpected humor in the movie, and it was well placed. And I don't want to ruin the surprise, but the first line of the movie is perfect, even if you can probably guess what it is.

But man, being in a packed theater where everybody was singing Boyz N The Hood was something you can only hope to be lucky enough to experience.

What type of crowd was in there?

Pretty mixed group as far as the age?

Yeah. Plenty of old people and kids as young as 12.

I'm 22 and was with a 23 year old and we were probably the least represented age group.

I can't wait to see this. It brings me back to the days of my uncles ridiculous Toyota pickup with 4 15s in the back.

Just came back from seeing this. Great movie, for how long it was it had my attention the entire time. I laughed more then I was expecting which was a good thing. I really loved how they placed footage at the end of some of some of them and the impact they had on various people.

Going into this I wasn't really familiar with the background of their record labels and ****, but damn Suge Knight in this.....

One of the best movies of the summer. Even at 2 1/2 hrs, it feels somewhat abbreviated and doesn't touch on everything it could. I think last two-thirds of the movie could've benefited from better pacing but overall it's very enjoyable to watch. Initially I thought the casting would be a weak point but turns out it was superb - especially Ice Cube's son as Ice Cube. The soundtrack is a huge strong point. As an east coaster I never really understood the appeal of Eazy-E; have a better appreciation for him now - although I think the movie could've been a classic if it hadn't glossed over some of the seedier aspects of the group; particularly Dre and Cube. Still, a really good movie imo
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Saw it yesterday and was impressed. I didn't really know what to expect but it was pretty well done. The casting was surprisingly well done. Even the brief cameos of guys like Snoop and Pac were done well. Marcc Rose's Tupac was dead on, much better than Anthony Mackie in Notorious.

A couple of thoughts I had was that I wished they showed a little bit more about life in Compton. The theme the movie kept trying to push was how NWA were "reporters" of what's going on in their world, yet most of what was depicted in the movie was their relationship with Police. Granted, the movie was 2.5 hours long so I'm sure they couldn't squeeze much more in there.

I agree about the pacing toward the end, I sort of felt like it ended somewhat abruptly. The humorous parts were good. One of the better moments was the scene when Cube was recording No Vaseline and NWA were hearing it for the first time. The theater audience had a very similar reaction as the song was going on and at the end of the song, there was an audible gasp in the theater.

DJ Yella was hands down the funniest part of this movie. Must be said.

Since I was born in 92, I was alive for this era of hip hop but I never got to really experience it. And growing up on the east coast, NWA was pretty much foreign to me. Going into this movie though, I had some basic knowledge of the group and their history, but this put a lot more into perspective for me.

If there is anything I can say about this movie, its that it is extremely visceral especially with the similarities to current events. For some people this movie is just going to feel way more real than it would to others. F. Gary Gray is excellent in the directors chair, and the actors portray the group so well you almost forget its not a documentary. While it would've been nice to see more of the "ugly" moments in their careers, I was impressed with how much of their story actually made it into the movie.

That being said, if you're on the fence about seeing this, go see it. Definitely worth the price of admission, my favorite movie so far this year and I'd gladly pay to see it again.

Edit: Did anybody else have their theater turn into a mini concert? Lol I swear there had to be 40-50 of us rapping along to the songs up until the end.
