I have a lot of scattered thoughts and don't quite know how to organize them, so I'll do my best.

First, this show is head and shoulders above any super hero thing available in TV or movies. It helps that Daredevil is my favorite hero ever, but even if that weren't the case, I can't see someone else saying there's something out there better; and yes I include the Dark Knight in that statement. Very cool to see Daredevil done justice. When they fast tracked season 2 and got a new show runner I was worried, but in my opinion they outdid season 1.

The first thing you notice right off the bat is the change in pacing. Similar to Fisk in season 1, you have that ominous buildup to the Punisher reveal. The difference is, this season moves much faster and as a result, we not only see Frank by the end of the first episode, but he and Daredevil have already had their first fight! Something that took 13 episodes in season 1, took just 1 in season 2.

Ahhh... Punisher. I don't know what the reviews are saying but to me, he just captured every scene he was in. I'm not a Punisher fanatic so am not as familiar with him as a character as I am Daredevil or Elektra, so someone can prove me wrong. But I've always seen Punisher (and Elektra for that matter) usually written kind of dry and lacking a lot of depth. Whereas Daredevil has more of a layered character with a lot of contradictions (Catholic that dresses like the devil, lawyer who obstructs justice, wants to do good but continually gets in his own way, etc.). Punisher is a very COOL character, but not one with a lot of layers. That said, Bernthal's Punisher is THE Punisher. Just a phenomenal job doing justice to a character that no one else has been able to bring justice to on film. I love that you never knew if he was psychotic? A genius? Both? Neither? He played him so layered and with such emotional depth I was deeply saddened at the thought that he was done in episode 4 and we had moved on to a new arc (I was SO happy I was wrong).

Enter Elektra. Elektra was interesting. I like that they went with the crazy Elektra from the man without fear origin story. I imagine as the series progresses we'll get more of the cold-hearted assassin Elektra (the dryer version mentioned above). I thought Yung did a good job, but the English accent really through me off. I don't know why but it bothered me as I've never read her that way in my head. I like that she had a Matt season 1 esque costume and they teased the red outfit at the end. I like that they had her straddling the line between hero and villain as well, as that is true to her character in the comics. Overall a good job but she didn't grab me the same way Frank did.

Speaking of costumes, I loved the evolution of Matt's costume. I like the season 2 version much better. I couldn't quite nail why but I think it has to do with the mask and overall outfit being much more ninja like and similar to the season 1 black suit. It's odd, but Daredevil didn't have "stature" in his old suit. He looked kind of short and stocky in the red whereas this one makes him look more intimidating ala the black. I would love to see the costume continue to be tweaked going forward. I marked out for the billy club at the end. It was very cool seeing DD swing from it for the first time ever. I can't wait to see him take out a sea of goons with it. Throwing and retracting it. It'll make for some great fight sequences in season 3.

This season was filled with so many mark-out moments. Punisher calling DD "Red" and "Alter boy", their philosophical talks on the roof and in the cemetery, Matt finally getting getting that pat on the back from Stick, Brent's promotion, the prison fight, the hallway fight, and the big big Kingpin reveal. They kept that one under wraps well. Very well done and a great job shocking me

I wasn't high on the man child portrayal of Fisk in season 1 but damn, this was THE KINGPIN in season 2. Fisk has evolved and everything he did was straight comic book Fisk. I loved every scene he was in. Using people like chess pieces, playing "the long game", making moves from prison. Just amazing. His scene with Matt in the interrogation room where he snaps, threatens Foggy, and Matt realizes he's taken on more than he can handle was great. Anyone who sees comic properties as popcorn fluff, needs to see some of the aforementioned scenes.

It is very cool seeing both Fisk and Matt evolve in the way they fight, think, act. The writers are also playing "the long game" and we all are benefitting from it. Wilson is more cunning and ruthless, Matt is more polished and more brooding.

It's been a joke that from Frank Miller through volume 2, writers would end their arcs putting Matt in worse situations than before. He rarely gets a happy ending and mostly gets put in yet another crappy situation that the next writer has to bail him out of. He gets his house blown up, has a few mental breakdowns, is outed in the press, has three love interests killed by bullseye, is thrown in prison, his best friend is stabbed then gets cancer, and the list goes on and on. I love that this season was just like that. Little victories here and there, but there's no big happy ending. Matt has pushed away everyone he loves, Elektra is "dead", Nelson and Murdock are disbanded, he mentally crossed over the Punisher's line, and he's miserable when he's not Daredevil ("The only time I feel alive is when I'm doing this..."). That is compelling stuff, and leaves you wanting to see more.

It seems as if Foggy taking on a job persecuting masks is the perfect setup for Civil War. It never happened that way in the comic verse, but for the MCU it'd be interesting to see them tease Nelson and Murdock on opposite sides of the war.

A few things I didn't get. Daredevil fires the gun in the hall and smiles when he sees its empty. One, with his enhanced senses I assume he would know exactly what is in the gun. Second, it's not like the gun was empty as Frank put a bullet in it, which Matt used to free himself.

Second, I find it odd that Karen was just given a reporter job. Did she go to journalism school? Does she even know how to write? Who cares! You're a reporter now! Seemed kind of odd. Interesting that both Karen and Foggy are in positions where their careers can be made based on the information they know about Matt. Given that Karen's belief in vigilantes may have been shattered by the Punisher it will be interesting to see how she responds to Matt's confession.

Overall I think this season surpassed season one. It was very well done and I can't wait to watch it again. I know there's a ton I'm missing that I wanted to touch on but I'm sure it'll come later. Fantastic job picking up where they left off.

I gotta disagree on how good and interesting Matt is. For me, this series is definitely carried by the antagonists. Fisk and Punisher are incredible and carried the season. Stick and Elektra's stories with Matt make him more enjoyable. Stick's story with Matt might be the best story in the series so far because of how awesome Stick is.

I meant in the comics Punisher is not a very deep character. In the show he absolutely is. Which is why I was so impressed. I wouldn't say he CARRIED the season but he was the best part.

And I find Murdock to be a great protagonist in both mediums.

I just don't think Murdock and his balance with Daredevil is that interesting. But his relationships with everyone as both is, which is carried by those other people. Foggy knowing his identity and how that changes, Karen not knowing but having encounters with DD. Their cop buddy. Fisk and Punisher. His rocky relationships with Elektra and Stick. It's definitely the supporting cast that carries the show. Not that Murdock isn't well acted, it's just the character can be boring a lot, similar to batman. They both need those close to them and the villains to carry them. And id definitely say Punisher was so good that he carried most of the season, he was done so well.

DD with the empty gun, I think that part of it too was him saying, "gotcha" to the gang members, because he bluffed the guy into dropping his gun making it that much easier for Matt to take him down.

For me, the Matt Murdock/Daredevil dual identity is the easily the best in the comic medium. Better than Bats, Supes, Spidey, all of them.

I agree one hundred percent with this. Daredevil is known as having one of the worst Rogues gallery in all of comic-dom, Spidey and Bats probably having the best in their respective universes. Daredevil has the Kingpin who was a throwaway Spidey villain that Frank Miller made cool, Bullseye who is a very one-dimensional psychopathic killer, and Elektra who barely counts as she's been more ally than enemy in Matt's life. Matt can have regular mobster Sammy Silke, the freakin' owl, the illegitimate children of Purple Man, Ox, Stilt Man, etc. as antagonists and still be one of the best comics out (seriously, Daredevil volume 2...) because Matt's greatest enemy has always been Matt. The big bad really doesn't matter when the protagonist is that strong.

I was hoping there would be some interaction between Punisher and Elektra but there was nothing. I was a bit disappointed that when Frank saw all the guns in the shed I was prepared to see a ninja blood bath but no just a sniper shot. Big disappointment there.

Just finished up the finale a few minutes ago and damn, that season took everything out of me, I loved it even more than season one. I agree with most of the points in Streets' in depth review (which was really well done btw!) and also his point about Daredevil being the best superhero adaptation in on-screen media and that is coming from a big DC Comics and Batman fan!

I never really gave Daredevil much of my attention at all before this Netflix series premiered last year. The only Marvel characters that I ever really followed, when it came to the pages, was Spider-Man and The Punisher (who I freekin love btw and was so excited to hear he was to be portrayed by Jon Bernthal in this!). But since laying eyes on this series, I have really begun to love and follow the character and his world since then. I will work on a more detailed review over the next few days to share with everyone, its a work day tomorrow....plus I am seriously considering watching the entire season all over again this week. haha

I want to touch on this a bit as well, because that was something that threw me off too...

I think it would have been more fitting for the character and have had the same impact on the viewer if they had just excluded the trigger pull. They should have just had Daredevil point the gun, scare the Dogs of Hell, then smile and get back to kicking ***, maybe immediately pistol whip one of the bikers after his smile. But everything else about that scene was pure magic!

OH and I wanted to share this, I figured that you guys in this thread would appreciate it. I pulled it out of this month's "VS." Loot Crate...




Its a Daredevil/Punisher reversible skull cap and may be my favorite item I have pulled from a Loot Crate so far. Plus the timing couldn't have been more perfect, I opened up the crate right before I watched the finale. I was so surprised to see a Daredevil knit cap staring back at me. My initial thought was "oh cool! They must have taken Daredevil and Punisher caps, divided them up and put them in all of the crates to celebrate the premiere of season two...I love this DD cap, but, man, I wish I got the Punisher one!" Then I pick it up and notice the white skull logo peeking out from inside and I had myself a little geek out moment over the fact that I can have both! haha I'll be sporting both sides of this bad boy...depending on my mood that day, of course! haha
