This has to be an AMD motherboard. What that means is the CPU's TDP can't exceed 95W, so yes you can use lower (you can use higher than that, but you are just asking to overload the voltage regulators and murder the thing).
You still have to know the motherboard, at the very least the socket type (AM3, AM3+, AM2, AM2+) and what it specifically supports.Comment

Yes, sorry, it's AMD and I found an online manual that tells me the socket type with which it's compatible.... it was the phrasing of the wattage compatibility that threw me. But I think you answered my question....thanks.Comment
