Here is what happened:

HBO/Mark Wahlberg never went to the NFL because obviously they would say no because of the shows references to concussions, drug use and players fighting. They also knew that the NFL wouldnt file suit against them because their marks are being used in a proper way (on the field in a football sense).

The NFL cant claim trademark dilution because they have real life issues with concussions, drug use and violence.

The NFL also has no leverage on HBO like they did on ESPN with Playmakers. Back then, Sunday Night NFL was ESPN's biggest property and they couldnt cross the NFL. That still is the case (see ESPN letting Bill Simmons and Keith Olbermann go).

With HBO, all the NFL has is Hard Knocks and thats not a huge property for HBO. If the NFL pulled the show from HBO, that would not hurt their bottom line.

Right Above It makes for the perfect tone setter. After the opening credits finish I wanna be right there on that yacht causing mayhem with Rock and the boys.

I'm loving this show more and more with each episode.

Agreed. I loathe this character. But in a Joffrey from GoT's kind of way.
You hate him, but you need to see him too.

The wife and I love GoT and Ray Donovan. This show may have usurped both right now.
It's definitely passed True Detective Season 2 (what a huge letdown).

This weeks episode was great. Liked the Glazer interview and it wasn't what I was expecting.

Also just saw on Twitter that Mike Pouncy said there is some truth to the TV Show. Just confirming everyone's thought I guess.
