    The Spoiler Tag Rules

I think I may have caused a tiny commotion and misunderstanding of the proper use of the spoiler tags in this forum, so let me clear it up (and publicly state that I was wrong in the Flash/Arrow threads for what I stated, and am extremely sorry for pointing out the incorrect use of spoiler tags).

TV SHOWS - Spoiler tags until after the show airs. So if a show starts at 8 PM and lasts for an hour, 9 PM you can stop using spoiler tags. WEST COASTERS BEWARE - This is not time zone sensitive.

THEATRICAL RELEASE MOVIES - Spoiler tags until the Monday after release. If a movie releases on a Thursday/Friday, please wait until Monday morning before not using spoiler tags.

NETFLIX RELEASES - This is up for debate. I believe Netflix releases most of their big original series on Fridays, so if that is the case I would say the same rule as Theatrical Releases (Monday mornings), but I'd welcome suggestions.

Can anyone think of any other reasons to use spoiler tags?

The part I agree with. Cause I've had times where I posted in a thread after it aired and people from west coast got mad cause they hadn't seen it yet. I've always said it, if you know an episode of a tv show has aired, DON'T go into the thread that's talking about that show until after you watch. It's your own fault if it gets spoiled....

Though I'll admit, I obviously have had multiple times where I posted spoilers(or just rumors) outside of spoiler tags, or didn't put a spoiler image in spoiler tags(cause apparently even just posting the link leads to image being shown for some people). The rumor part is abit of a grey area at times.

Things we need clarifying on though......Lets say "Person X" is guest starring on an upcoming episode of a show(regardless if it airs next week,or just at a later time in the season). Would that count as a spoiler if it gets talked about?

Cause I know some people want to watch an episode without knowing a single piece of info like who's in it or even the tv guide preview of it. Survivor for example, they show people a preview clip of the next episode, right after their current episode ends, so would talking about that preview clip need to be posted in spoiler tags as well?

I would say anything not aired yet gets thrown into the "Spoiler" realm.

That's a tricky one because you're usually talking about a 13 episode, 10-11 hour series which dwarfs the time of a single episode or even a movie. In general OSers have used spoiler tags indefinitely, many times labeling the tag with where they are at in the series (e.g., "Through Episode 3"). I think after 7-10 days from release, there shouldn't be a spoiler tag requirement.

Id say in addition stuff like game of thrones where there are books that tell the story in advance of the movie or show, where the thread is about the movie or show and not the book.

To me, with movies spoiler tags should be used until 2 weeks after release. Not everyone can rush out to the theatre and see it.

This doesn't really apply to me as I wait a long time if i'm going to see a movie or just watch it when it's been released to home media but for those that regularly go out to see movies I think a 2 week buffer zone is reasonable.

I think I'm fine with that, but as for the movies thing it would need to be in the thread for that specific movie for which these rules apply. It's kind of more difficult if you're venturing into the "What movies have you seen recently?" thread, then you see somebody jump in on a movie that's... hell, let's say it's even twenty years old. That doesn't make it okay, because you're not subscribing to that thread knowing what movie they're going to talk about. I watch a lot of movies based on people's impressions in those thread, but not their spoiler impressions. That would turn me away immediately.

                I think that excessive.

I stay out of any movie threads until I've seen them since once the movie is released there isn't anything to talk about except spoilers.

I think movies in general should ALWAYS be spoilered. Not everyone sees them on release or even years after. A lot of times, I go into a movie thread to read spoiler-free impressions because most of the time, OSers would spoiler tag anything that becomes specific and it helps me decide if I want to see something or not.

                    Re: The Spoiler Tag Rules

I think movies should always be spoilered tag. There's a lot of young people here who never heard of the movies that were made before them or were too young to enjoy it and they should be able to enjoy an old movie because one of us reviews or recommends it.

I been on OS for over a decade and we always understood to not go in a TV show thread until you watched the episode, you have a whole week to discuss what happened so it's the users fault if they go in it when the show is airing in another time zone.

As for Netflix, I think we need to spoiler tag plus put the episode you're talking about. I don't see what the big deal is to do that. It's not hard and takes a few extra clicks and words to do it. Some people can watch it in two days and some need months to watch a series and we should respect all who is watching.

I'm going to piggyback off of this for Netflix. For these shows not everyone has a whole weekend to binge watch these shows. So for Netflix I think maybe a couple of weeks spoilers should be there.

Yeah, I was saying 7-10 days, but two weeks sounds right.

                          Re: The Spoiler Tag Rules

Is it really so impossible to stay out of the show's/movie's thread once the spoiler tags are gone? A weekend lets people have a chance to see it and post reactions within the confines of spoiler tags, so you can get the general consensus if it's any good or not, then if you can't get out to see the movie just don't go into those threads.

Obviously the "what movies have you seen lately" thread is an issue, since you could have someone post spoilers outside of the title's thread, but the easy fix there is add "spoiler free" to the thread title and it kind of supersedes the global rule just for such a general thread.

Yea like with Daredevil...want to watch the show but haven't had the time because I am watching other shows from start to end on Netflix and on TV. Also I have had finals with school and whatnot. So I just haven't had the time.
