This settings reverting back to what they were after being changed seems to be a common theme with Windows 10 (see my earlier post). Every time I would get it fixed so my files weren't read only, they'd just revert back to read only the next time I booted. Finally got it permanently fixed by switching to signing in with a local account, leaving my homegroup, and removing my microsoft account from account settings.

Re: Windows 10
Im glad you guys are playing the test subjects because if that happened to me after updating I'd be incredibly mad.
While these issues might be minor in the grand scheme, they should not be happening at all. Its Microsoft's big rebound attempt and the Q & A seems to have fell very short.

Re: Windows 10
When I try to install Windows 10, I get a C1900101 error code and it forces me to restart in Windows 8. A quick search is bringing up solutions like defragging, turning off antivirus, and other things that either do the trick or not do the trick.
Guess I'll play around with it later when I have a chance. Guess I'm lucky it allowed me to revert back to 8 and not give me a BSOD.Comment

Re: Windows 10
I'm not seeing the same issue as you. I can open the hub, rename several Favorites folders, and it saves just fine within Edge. I've renamed imported folders (from Chrome) and new folders that I created within Edge with no issues.Comment

Re: Windows 10
IMHO, Microsoft is doing such a huge advertising campaign this time around they are making Windows users feel compelled to upgrade to Windows 10, just because it''s free. I have to install all new operating systems from Microsoft for consumers because I need to know how to repair, tweak and optimize the systems. I installed the W10 upgrade and was not impressed with the final version. To be candid, it''s still much easier for the average computer user to navigate Windows 7.
In a few words: Windows 10 has too much junk in it in terms of the Start Menu/All Programs. Windows 7 has those two featues in excellently configured and everyone loves a helpful Start Button.
The Start button/menu is better than 8's Metro UI obviously but it's still worse than 7's. The Mail and Calendar apps are worthless, OWA/Gmail's web interface are still far better. IMO a very small percentage of users will use Cortana on a regular basis.
I still like 10 after I've customized it but objectively I can't say it's better than 7."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Windows 10
Are you still signed into OneDrive? Because I'm not. After turning off that stuff and the next time I restarted, I did get a popup saying I needed to reconfigure OneDrive or something which I just closed and I haven't seen it again. Also, the first time I tried to access my documents folder I got a message that said I didn't have permission to access it then asked me to click 'OK' to permanently gain access to them and that was the end of my problems. Dunno if you have a Microsoft Answers community forum account, but check this thread. Plenty of other people have been having the same sort of issues.
After Windows 10 Upgrade all files are marked as read only
I agree and it's because while 10 is a nice improvement over 8 there is still too much "8-ness" to it. There is absolutely no reason to have things like a "Settings" app in addition the Control Panel. That's completely moronic, put it all in one place and be done with it. Being hounded to sign in to a Microsoft account all the time (and not use a traditional local account) is annoying. In this regard they're trying to be too much like OS X.

BTW, as for the "files read only" bug, from the community thread I linked, I have gotten the impression that this issue may be restricted to those upgrading from Windows 7.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: Windows 10
I finally went ahead and upgraded and upgraded my graphics card drivers without a hitch.
Mainly becauase it takes up less resources to operate and isn't a complete cluster mess like Windows 8 was at release and I must say I like it alot.
IMO its a cross between 7 and 8. I love the split view feature. I was going to buy an LG ultrawide monitor for that feature until I saw this I completely wrote that monitor off and bought a new 27 inch monitor to game on so I can stop playing on my 60 inch tv. Very happy with the decision I must say.
After turning off every imaginable share and privacy setting I could, I'm good to go.Comment

Re: Windows 10
Trying to DL important updates for W7 and it keeps indicating that it's DL'ing W10.... I hate this M$ bull**** sometimes.
Found this link if you want to uninstall the update (but didn't apply W10 as of yet): http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/h...ng-your-system
Addendum: despite doing that, when I try to DL/install my important W7 updates for things like Silverlight, Office 10, W7 and Defender, it still tries to DL W10. Such bull****.Last edited by daflyboys; 08-17-2015, 12:25 PM.Comment

Re: Windows 10
Interesting, I have the Win10 tab on my desktop but I didn't actually download Win10.
I just looked at my windows updates. Everything that doesn't involve Win10 were updated successfully but everything to do with Win10 failed as I guess I didn't activate the thing to put it on my PC.
So I guess i'm safe.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
