Agreed. I'm much more enjoying where these Anthology stories are going than the main trilogies now. Honestly, after seeing Solo last night, I'm actually wanting to know where that story goes and what could happen next. I frankly could give a crap about Poe, Rey, Leia, Finn, Snow(?), and the other 12 resistance fighters left on the Falcon.

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
Saw this today. I enjoyed it. A lot of action and good characters.
I had low expectations going in, mainly because I just wasn't feeling the dude playing Han. But I thought he was better in the movie than the trailers showed. Although, I still would have preferred Anthony Ingruber (he played a young version of Harrison Ford's character in Age of Adaline).
Is this a one-off or the start of a trilogy? They set up a sequel, but also set it up so it kind of runs into A New Hope.
SpoilerI hope it's a trilogy because I want to see Qi'ra's arc. She's a great fighter, good with a staff ... sounds like someone else we know. And she may have force sensibilities if she's training with Maul (which is how I took that cameo). After Force Awakens, I thought Rey was probably Han's daughter with a woman other than Leia. I'm thinking Qi'ra may be that woman.Last edited by LowerWolf; 05-26-2018, 10:08 PM.Comment

SpoilerThen given the Darth Maul appearance he could pop up in the Obi-Wan movie that's supposed to be happening. Maul might play a factor in that film and now that his story intersects with Han's here he could find his way into that mix.Last edited by King_B_Mack; 05-27-2018, 12:12 AM.Comment

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
Saw it today and enjoyed it. Like many others, I had low expectations going in...
Spoiler
It's a solid, entertaining movie. It's no Rogue One but it's good. A fun SW movie after the TLJ mess (I strongly disliked Ep 8). The plot is largely a generic heist movie we've all seen a dozen times. It is a safe movie but it was well done; well written and well executed. It provides answers and shows us some key events from Han's younger days. Nothing profound in the context of the entire saga but still cool to see: meeting Chewie, meeting Lando, the Kessell run, etc.
My biggest takeaway is that the trailers and hype/promotion did not do this movie justice. Han is portrayed better than I expected; in the trailers he comes off as nerdy and too different from the Han everyone knows. I was worried he'd be like that the entire movie but he isn't. I'd liked him to be a bit more snarky but he's a younger man and the world hasn't yet molded him into the character we're introduced to in Ep IV. Seeing Han as a bit of a hopeless romantic is odd; I would have liked if he was more torn up over Emilia Clarke given how googley-eyed he is for her.
Chewie was great. Donald Glover was better than I expected. Woody Harrelson always seems to deliver. Emilia Clarke as well. I loved Lando as the cheat with the cards up his sleeve.
I didn't care for Maul at the end. Emilia Clarke's character got herself into a quite an important role in three short years. From arrested at the spaceport to Voss's servant to Maul's confidant.
L-3 was kind of blah. I could use a break from the sassy droids. Also, why did she have women's hips?
I assume there's going to be a sequel based on how this one ended but who knows. I'd be looking forward to it if there is one.

Han and Leia clearly had a rocky relationship though, so I could see him hooking back up with Qi'ra after Leia.
Although, if Qi'ra is say in her early 20s in Solo, that puts her having Rey in her late 40s, which seems unlikely.Comment

Han Solo um....solo film
I too had low expectations but I loved this movie.
For me it was miles ahead of Last Jedi and even better than Rogue One.
I loved the interactions between Solo and Chewy and of course Lando who was my favorite character.
Solo actor was good as well. Huge, basically impossible shoes to fill but he did a good job.
This movie has restored my balance in the Force.

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
Shaping up to be a disappointing weekend at the box office, poor international performance.
The Star Wars spinoff opened well-below expectations with a franchise-low $83.3 million in ticket sales
I'll check it out while it's still in theaters, hopefully in the next week or so.Comment

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
1) Star Wars overkill - this came out too close to TLJ.
2) Star Wars hate after TLJ.
3) No one cared about a Han Solo film that didn't feature Harrison Ford.
I'm sure it's a combination of all three. Many fans/reviews have mentioned the trailers not doing the movie justice. It seems like Disney gave up on this movie and didn't market and promote it as much as normal. Too bad, it's a good movie."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

The debate as to why is fascinating.

I'm not sure why Disney pushed for a Memorial Day date anyway. People are used to SW movies at Christmas now; why change? If Solo put out a better trailer and released in December, it likely would've made respectable Rogue One box office.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Han Solo um....solo film
Right. To me the biggest factors for sure were:
- Lukewarm reaction to TLJ (and close to it)
- Opening in Deadpool's second weekend (and yup, IW)
- Nobody wanted this film
- The hubbub leading up to it with the change of directors and crap (this is a small amount of people, but still)

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
I think, when all is said and one, this was probably my favorite Star Wars film. I just thought it was fun. Han is my favorite Star Wars character, and I like heist flicks.
Of course, I really liked Rogue One, and think the one-offs are an awesome idea.Comment

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
I had a ton of fun, watched it in 4dx and it was the best 4dx movie ever. It was sooo fun flying through with Han, it felt like I was next to him on the Falcon.

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
I think this article explains much better the problems I had with this movie than I could. I think it's a decent movie, but that that's not really enough. In a way it's the movie I was worried would be made when Disney bought the license.
When the universalization of “Star Wars” is complete, it will no longer be a story but an aesthetic.
These parts in particular:
Spoiler
"Early in “Solo,” Han attempts this maneuver with a land speeder (in a faux surprise, he fails); later, he does it successfully with the Falcon, while escaping a field of space debris. In “The Force Awakens,” Rey tips the Falcon while zooming through a wrecked Star Destroyer; in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Han does it while navigating a canyon on a giant asteroid. Space flight in “Star Wars” is intrinsically exciting, but repetition is rarely transcendent. Meanwhile, as the film draws to a close, its climactic moment turns out to be a riff on the “Han shot first” controversy—an inside-baseball fan debate about a 1997 revision to the original “Star Wars,” from 1977. The franchise is trapped in a loop of self-love."
"When the universalization of “Star Wars” is complete, it will no longer be a story but an aesthetic. We’ll be able to debate which actor played Han Solo best, just as we weigh the pros and cons of different James Bonds. We’ll keep up with the new movies not because we want to find out what happens—the plot, if one exists, will be an impenetrable trellis of intersecting arclets—but because we like their vibe, their look, and their general moral attitude. Collectively, the “Avengers” and DC Comics universes address a common set of issues: terrorism, globalization, inequality, the failure of states, and the responsibilities of élites. Similarly, “Star Wars” may become an endless meditation on adolescence through which different actors precipitate, first as teen-agers, then as parents. In film after film, interchangeable young people will wrestle with the dark side before embracing hope. There will be an infinite supply of high-speed space chases and lightsabre duels. But the story will never end, and so will have ceased to be a story."

Re: Han Solo um....solo film
Wow...I took the kids to see this tonight and I have to say, this might be my favorite of all the SW films. The story telling was awesome, the characters were great, and the acting was excellent. I really have no complaints at all about this movie. I think I've enjoyed Rogue One and Solo more than the "actual" movies (although TFA was really good). I don't get the low numbers for this at all..."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do.
