Well, James Wan directed Furious 7. You're right though in that he's the bridge between these two film franchises.

        Tragic story about Chekov.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the re-boot of the franchise and love the direction they have taken. While I am a moderate Star Trek fan (love the original crew as I grew up watching re-runs of Kirk, Spock and McCoy), and also enjoyed New Generation (the TV show as the NG movies to me were average at best), and Deep Space 9, the franchise needed a reboot.

My wife who thinks the original crew films are all pure camp and cheese, loves the new take on the old crew. I agree with her. They are excellent. The reboot has a hip, accessible feel. Not the geeky Trek convention feel.

It still has the deep sci-fi elements but also great action and effects. Far more exciting.

Had a great time watching, so fun. Watched it in IMAX 3d....BEAUTIFUL Great cinematography, action packed and it was a sprint pace throughout the movie.

Definitely liked this better than Into Darkness and I enjoyed this as much as the first but this one had way more action. Nothing complexed with the plot but just a lot of fun.

Remember how some people like myself bashed the first trailer with the Beastie Boys song? Lets just say looking back at it....awesome.

Justin Lin just knows how to direct action, can't wait to see more of his work. The cast did a fine job and can't wait for more.

Thanks for the review man. I was worried but now I have hope that I'll enjoy it. Sounds like a good time.

I feel like I'm one of the few people who really enjoyed Into Darkness

Glad to hear the positive review BTW I rather liked "Into Darkness" but I can see how others wouldn't since it's basically a rehash of Wrath of Khan. I still don't like that this isn't the cerebral Trek of old but I'll adjust my mindset with the hope that the new TV show will be closer to that style.

Finally a movie I am going to go see in the theater. I have been dying to go to a movie but there has not been anything I could justify spending the time and money on to go see recently. Might have to try to get to an imax showing after RDMs post.

Saw it again today and have the same feelings. Bones and Spock were just great together in this film. Had a lot of funny dialogue between them.

Also great job with Edris Elba as the villain and the new charater played by the blade leg lady in The Kingsman. Great makeup too on all the non human characters, looked natural.

Anton Yelchin has done well and it was bitter sweet to see him in his last performance. Since Star Trek 4 has been confirmed, do you guys think Chekov should be written off or should they recast him? I'm kinda mixed about it if they should or not. RIP Anton

They already said they weren't recasting him which I think is a good move. He was awesome as Chekov.

                        Just saw it.

                        It's awesome.

High 8, that is what I would give it. Just a super fun time.

I honestly thought it was going to suck but I love what they did with the movie. It feels fresh and is just a fun watch.

I saw this with my dad today who's been a big Star Trek fan for 40 years and we both really enjoyed it. Anton Yelchin was fantastic in his bigger role in the movie, which makes his tragic death even worse.

How many times are they going to destroy the Enterprise though lol?

Saw it before Suicide Squad and thought it was pretty legit. Definitely still doesn't surpass Star Trek 2009 though. STID wasn't the best one either though, but at least on that one they seemed to travel a little bit. This one they are sort of in the same area the entire time. The planet they were on was kind of weak sauce. Still a fun ride though and thought it was great to hear in Atmos.

The only real question I have is where was Carol Marcus?

Just saw this and I believe it's the weakest of the 3 so far. That being said it still had its' merits. I thought the graphics were actually too elaborate if that's possible. Overall as a story it wasn't bad, but there were one too many incredulous moments for my taste. The biggest one was...
