I liked Poe in TFA, but in this movie they just made him look kind of dumb.

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
I'll attempt to guess some of them for him on his behalf:
Spoiler
- Turning Luke into a hermit and recluse, who is selfishly bitter about anything involving the resistance, the force, his failure in training Kylo, and life itself.
- New ways to use the force (Mary Poppins moment, communicating across the universe, superimposing oneself elsewhere [as well as objects, such as water], summoning a lightning strike from beyone the grave, etc.).
Spoiler
- Rey suddenly turning into Neo by being impeccable at combating, shooting, forcing, etc. over just a few training courses. [And on a minor note, next time you watch the film, check out the shot where she approaches the big boulders that she eventually removes. It shows the Millennium Falcon on top of the cliff and Rey hitting her final descent of said cliff. Go ahead and ask yourself the question: "How the hell did she get down there?" Haha you'll see what I mean if you see the cliff.]
- Killing Snoke, perhaps prematurely in some people's eyes. Feeling that Kylo Ren could pull a Tyler Durden and manipulate the thoughts of another individual who seeks your intentions by will of force.
- Resorting some long-awaited highlight reunions to a cheap laugh, like Luke tossing the light saber and Leia's hair change comment (which I liked).
- Captain Phasma going the way of Darth Maul and Boba Fett, despite the world's complaints of her being criminally exploited and underused in TFA.
- Intense moments relaxed by one-liners (though this is not uncommon in SW, Disney, or anything Hollywood).
- Many people thinking that Ray's lineage deserves to be more than just a couple of nobody parents, especially given her abilities and connections (although this was definitely always one of the multiple choice options).
Although I'm merely attempting to describe these for another individual, some of these things I don't necessarily feel the same with. At the same time, I understand why others might be miffed about these things. After all, I was the one who believed that the film Creed did not earn its moments from what was built in the previous Rocky series.
Now, I myself quite enjoyed The Last Jedi but mostly enjoyed the final act (everything from Kylo killing Snoke, onward), and I think The Force Awakens is a much better overall film. I will agree that everything that was built up in TFA was kind of thrown wayside in TLJ. That's why I'm just as conflicted as many of you also are. I don't think this movie was brilliant, but I did like it more the second time I saw it.
I'll just say this much about it: my younger sister has yet to see any of the Star Wars movies, and I was excited to show her The Force Awakens in anticipation of seeing The Last Jedi with her. After seeing The Last Jedi, I can't quite muster up the same excitement to pretty much tell her: "You gotta see these movies!" TLJ just didn't carry enough weight to warrant such a viewing from a skeptical outsider, in my opinion. It didn't build off of TFA well enough, much like how Spider-Man 3 left Spider-Man 2 in shambles from what it built up. However, if she does see it, seeing it in theaters is the best time to go (forces her to stay with it till the end, and gets her to engage with the audience's reactions that are die-hard SW fans).Last edited by Blzer; 12-17-2017, 02:47 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
The biggest WTF moment for me wasSpoilerpretty much everything after the rebels decided to retreat on that salt planet. Rose retreating, yet somehow getting up in front of Finn at the end to save the day. Both of them surviving her T-Boning him. The First Order deciding that killing everyone else was fine, but let's not bother to shoot at Finn as he's literally flying through the deathray beam like it's nothing, and let's not bother to shoot at Finn as he slowly drags Rose 5-10 miles back to the base. I mean come on lol; basically everything that happened on that salt planet was a joke.Last edited by Yeah...THAT Guy; 12-17-2017, 01:48 PM.NFL: Bills

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Better than 4 and Rogue One??? Oh god no.
Agree to disagree.
Episode 4 is an absolute classic and there no Star Wars Universe, unless that movie was made and became the monster success that it was.
Wow that is actually blasphemy IMO.
Only The Empire Strikes Back was better IMO.
So again its simply subjective.

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
I don't get the complaints that people have with the comedy in this movie at all. The first joke early in the movie I thought was kind of stupid and didn't work but I thought ever other comedy moment worked just fine. I do think TFA did the best job with comedy of any star wars movie though.Comment

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
SpoilerSo about Snoke and his death I was disappointed with that because we got no back story with him and he went down to easy and while I like Kylo he is not really that strong of a villain and is now like the lead bad guy threat going forward. How ever I forgot about the knights of Ren has they where not really talked about in this movie. Does any one think that in 9 that both the Knights of Ren and Kylo may fight Rey? That would be a way to have a threat and make things more interesting even with a villain who is not crazy powerful in Kylo. Just think if Kylo and like 5 people from the Knights of Ren where to all fight Rey. We don't even know like how many people are in the knights and how many people that luke was training did Kylo kill and not kill.Last edited by Smallville102001; 12-17-2017, 02:07 PM.Comment

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
SpoilerSo is no one going to point out that the kid at the end is Luke's son! Or the fact he used the force to grab that broom, and he's already set up to possible meet back with the rebellion. He has that ring for a reason! They went to that planet to set that story up.Comment

They busted the idea that you had to have a particular bloodline, etc.
The kid has hope, the spark is still alive, that's all it takes.

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
SpoilerBecause if you read the books they discuss Luke's son and it's possible that could be him.
Also Rey is Leia daughter, her Solo had twins and they are both Jedi, I'm sure Kylo knows that she's his sister.
Plus you add in the races (similar to pod racing) being a slave similar to Anakin's childhood.
He's definitely SkywalkerComment

he would have been nearly sixty years old at the time the kid was conceived.
I guess there's using the force, and there's using the force.
I guess it's not impossible though, either.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Just got back from seeing it.
The Hyperspace Jump, as said, was the coolest scene.
I've got no major issues with it. It's definitely in my Top 9 Star Wars movies.Boston Red Sox

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Kinda long. Just a list of some issues with the movie I had.
Spoiler
So when I say unearned payoffs, I mean ending to story threads that happen before all the elements of that story thread are explored on screen.
So I'm just gonna list a couple off without giving too much more commentary.
Snoke's abrupt death
Kylo deciding to kill Snoke
Phasma dying...again
Poe becoming a top commander
Rey lineage reveal:
this one I blame 150% on the filmmakers. They're the ones who dangled this carrot in front of us in TFA. Tease upon tease. Then scolded us in TLJ for it with a "Shame on you for thinking her parents were important". This was the only payoff I found to be insulting to the audience.
Things that stick out in general as odd:
Rose randomly being in love with Finn. And Finn seemingly reciprocating it. Where the hell did this come from?
Rose surviving
Finn surviving
The rose and Finn story being included in the film at all. It was pointless. Finn is pointless. He is becoming Jar Jar. Why did they think to turn his character into this? Hell they even distanced him as a love interest from Rey because even they think he isn't worth her. I mean wtf.
Rey and Kylo "sexual tension" Force Skype conversations. If these two make out in episode 9, the communal rage of the fanbase may destroy the planet.
Why did Leia and Holdo keep their plan secret??? All they did was cause more problems by doing so.
Why is everybody all of a sudden an expert pilot when they need to be?
Kylo asks Rey to join him, leaving the sith and Jedi in the past. Immediately re pledges to dark and hunts down last members of the light? Ok.
Where are the Knights of Ren?
Why were some others of Luke's disciples so quick to escape with Ben Solo? Luke never *almost* kill them too did he?
The movie wants us all to leave the past in the past....Rey steals Jedi books to preserve them.
Poe hitting Rey with the "I know" line to Rey. Don't do it Disney.
And plenty more but I'm tired. And I'll bow out for now.
I really can't wait to see episode 9. I want to see how they work this jumbled mess into a grand finale.
There were many things I did like though. I don't want to make it sound like I HATED the film. It's like a 6 or a 7. But it's not about to win an oscar for screenplay or directing or anything. Visuals maybe.Comment

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Episodes 1 and 2 are junk R1 while I like it over all is not that great really lame characters that are just there and that I don't care for at all and not having John doing the music you could really tell. Episode 3 was much better then 1 and 2 but still a lot of flaws. 4 while good and was the first star wars movie has not aged while compared to the other OT movies. To me saying this is not better then R1 and 4 is just flat out laughable. That then leaves 5-7 being better then this movie at worst meaning this being the 4th best movie in the franchise.
It’s subjective. If you think it is a top 4.....it’s your top 4. For me...not even top 5.
It’s all good.
And that’s laughable to you. Like me thinking your taste in Star Wars films is clearly not mine.
