I've always known of Dr. Strange just never had an interest in the character. I'll probably still check out the film at some point but it's nothing I'm clamoring to see.

I've always been the biggest of Marvel fans, but the whole introduction of the alternate reality and mysticism in the Marvel world never appealed to me. However, it was tolerated as Dr. Strange often got paired up with other interesting Marvel characters. I'd think this would be of more interest if they didn't take the PC route and go single, white female as the Ancient One instead of the Asian really old guy (who was probably also single).

Honestly, the only way Doctor Strange works is if you do it as a team-up with a more street level character as they go on a wacky magical/alternate reality trip. Basically it has to be done in a buddy cop mold with Strange's partner being a complete fish out of water wherever they are.

Just a feeling on my part. I could be totally wrong. I was skeptical about Thor before that movie came out too and was proven wrong.

Yeah me to I didn't really have an interest in Thor but enjoyed alot. I haven't seen the sequel yet need to get around to that. I'm not writing off Dr. Strange as it could also surprise me.

Again...would like to have seen them develop a relatively unknown, or lesser known, actor than Cumberbatch. Of course, a lot remains to be seen. Lastly, maybe I can finally learn to pronounce some of Dr. S's foes names the right way.

Marvel isn't going to hire lesser known actors for lead roles in their universe, though.

Chris Hemsworth was pretty unknown when he was cast as Thor.

I consider myself a comic book head, but I have never read a single Dr. Strange comic...never interested me as a character. He has definitely been a major player in a lot of big arcs though....especially recently with Secret Wars- which I did actually enjoy his role in.

I will keep an open mind regarding the movie.
