Find a new basketball team? That's a start at least.

Still no viable substitute for traditional TV. I want to flip the TV on and go directly to whichever event/channel I'm going to be watching without having to worry about loading, buffering, delays, quality, or any other garbage like that.

I also like flipping between channels with ease and scrolling through a guide to see what's on. I get much more joy out of seeing a show I love and saying "AWESOME! It's _________ episode!" or "Sweet! Haven't seen this movie in forever!" than actually picking something out. Not particularly an "on demand" type of guy in that regard.

Definitely agree with this. Streaming can ruin your experience at times. I've had dates that I've brought home almost be ruined because of constant buffering and slow speeds. No way to get the drawls like that lol.

          Pros
          • I really don't miss it that much lol
          • probably one of the best decisions I've made
          • I've picked up other habits (workout more , read more , cook more etc...)
          • saved a ton of money actually more than I expected
          • got more school work done and timely

          Cons
          • I miss a good bit of sports (ways around this ).
          • streaming sports leads to a lot of buffering, blackouts , and just "unavailable at this time " moments

But I really recommend cutting it . I don't see myself getting cable back no time soon .

Yes, those are the cons. Sports mostly. Like you mentioned there are workarounds but you definitely lose quality.

With that said, I've been without cable for at least 4 years and I don't miss it at all.

This is what I hear...Sling would be needed for us (especially if they add locals over time) but as a family the buffering would drive us nuts. We don't have problems with Netflix or Amazon, but I know Sling has had more issues.

The buffering was terrible. Vue doesn't have that problem for me.

I do think that over the next 2-3 years we'll get more streaming options.

The issue is it won't be saving you any money. You will have to either pay for each channel/service separately or you will have to buy multiple bundles, like sports ESPN and Fox Sports are in different ones. So you will end up right back where you were unless you only want a few channels.

Unless you have a buddy with cable who can give you their password for a couple bucks a month.

I'm surprised this option hasn't been locked down more yet. With more people cutting the cord, I'm sure it is coming where you have to register your devices on your home network and have a limited #. Then you have to reactivate within 30 days on your home network.

DTV does this with the geniego, but online streaming is unrestricted.

Yea I'm definitely surprised more companies haven't done it. The only company I can think of off the top of my head is Netflix, where you are only allowed 2 people on at the same time.

I use sling tv and if you have a good internet speed that's a decent alternative. Just like with most internet based streaming you may have buffering issues from time to time. If you have an xbox one you could subscribe to hbo go at 19.99 a month along and with that added to sling w/TNT,espn1/2,a&e, cnn, etc. you would be paying about $40 a month all together.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Just get HBO Now. It's only $15 a month and you still get all of the shows/movies/etc.

Wasn't sure where else to ask this and have searched for a Fire TV/Stick thread but didn't find one. Has anyone had an issue with their Fire TV and the picture going black after random periods of time? It has happened when using Vue and Netflix. I researched and saw an issue that people reported back in 2015 after Amazon released an update causing issues with HDCP but also read that was fixed in a later update. I bought this 4k Fire TV box a few weeks ago, so it shouldn't have that problem.

I have tried different HDMI ports on the TV as well as different HDMI cables and still see the problem. The content continues to play but the picture on the TV goes black. If I turn the TV off then back on, everything is still playing on the Fire TV.
