Single greatest musician to ever make it. There was nobody out there with the insane amount of talent he had on so many instruments. And that doesn't even begin to take into account his ear for melody and harmony.

As a musician, this one hurts the most for me.

When he performed live, there was no one better. He gave you your money's worth and more.

Been a fan since 1979......so heartbroken right now.

This has been the worst year in music with all the legends who have died so far.

              RIP, Prince.

This is a sad one for sure.

He was such a talented musician and the music world lost a great one.

A bic lighter salute to the Purple one.

I was never really crazy about the song styles by Prince, but that could've been in part being a product of the 80's. I really admired him performing songs outside of his own list, such as the above posted video for Guitar Gently Weeps. Was also amazed to hear he was self taught. That's pretty incredible considering how he could bring it.

Another crushing blow to the music industry. A legend gone. Way too soon. Prince did things his way, which I always admired. Refused to just be a nostalgia act, was constantly recording and working on new material, and producing new acts.

                      Rest In Peace.

R.i.P. to a true legend. I wasn't the biggest fan of his music but I recognize his genius. It really looked like he was getting out of his reclusiveness these days.

Very shocking and very much akin to Michael Jackson's death in terms of the emotional outpouring of love and sympathy.

Well damn man this sucks. Him and Phil Collins have always been my favorite musicians cause of their music and their versatility in playing different instruments. Music world lost a legend today. RIP

Don't forget song writer, including many hits for other artists.

And hell, as amazing as the Purple Rain album was (it was amazing), it's forgotten that it was a movie about his life... amazing movie too. The symbol thumbed his nose at the establishment and was a trailblazer in so many ways.

Plus I hear he could really hoop and make pancakes.

                              This one definitely stings. RIP

I think the fact he was self-taught made me respect him even more. I mean, we all listen to music, but how many of us can teach ourselves to play the things we're hearing ... on more than one instrument? That's genius-level.

Going to be watching Purple Rain this weekend, that's for sure.
