Re: The Exorcist TV Series (Fox)

One of the classes I read The Exorcist for was about Urban Legends, so we also read The Devil Came to St. Louis, which is the non-fiction account of the case that inspired the book. In that case it was a young boy, and the event started in Baltimore, but the family brought him to St. Louis where the exorcism was carried out over weeks.

It was a creepy, and exhausting, tale. Reading the book gave an insight the the movie couldn't, and that was the long arduous process, full of repetition and abuse.

I'm not even religious, but it does seem that this kind of satanic horror can still do a number on me. After watching those two episodes the other night, extremely late, I came to bed and the dogs were acting weird. Seriously, my little one was laying next to my head staring at me. Every time I opened my eyes she was right there creeping me out. With the show running through my head, I had this feeling of a dark presence.

Probably doesn't help that my other dog, who instead of staring at me was walking around the bed and jumping off and on, is a black dog named Crowley. He is named after the demons in both Neil Gaiman's Good Omens and in Mark Shepard's character in Supernatural.

So yeah, the show can get into your head.

That was intense. I love the direction of the story. Love the introduction of real life consequences. Not sure if I like the direction of Father Tomas' arc, but I get what it represents.

Just binge watched the 1st. 5 episodes. Definitely not what I thought it would be about. I'm happy they seem to be keeping to the original in certain ways.

The tension in some of the scenes are really good. As well as some of the special effects.

            I'll keep watching

Re: The Exorcist TV Series (Fox)

I've never seen any of the films or read any books, came into this pretty fresh aside from the few popular clips that circulate, but so far I'm all in lol

I can't even watch it during the live time slot, I need to catch it late at night on Hulu with the lights off and spooky atmosphere.

Someone mentioned an AHS comparison, but I gave up on that series a couple seasons ago, I'm not even sure how to explain it but I completely lost interest after the 2nd season, it just wasn't entertaining anymore.

One issue I do have is with Father Tomas giving into temptation so easily in the latest episode, I was like come on man, but other than that I can't wait for more, even though it probably gets canceled (although it looks like the numbers are actually improving )

Yes, almost as good as Linda Blair, I must say. The parallels between Regan and Casey are keeping me locked in. It appears from the previews of the next episode they will bring up some of the history from the movie.

Same here. Was watching the premier when I was interrupted but liked what I was seeing. Have all the episodes on DVR. On vacation next week, and a binge night is in the works.

I keep reading from critics that this show needs more comedy and light hearted moments, I am like WTF?? that isn't anything like the original Exorcist. yes this show is gloomy and the like but that's how it is supposed to be...I don't want any comedic moments in this show..

I wonder if the critics suggest the humor twist because it's a network show, like since they can't get away with going to the extreme the way a cable series could, they should embrace some lighthearted moments instead. There are already humor moments but they're kinda snuck in there, and I like it that way

Problem is the critics are often right because ratings

(seriously, can we get to the point where network TV is just family comedies and old people crime shows? let all the good stuff go to cable. Let all the local channels be 15 different CSI locations with the fam coms mixed in, and everything else goes north)

                          sorry for rant

Not gonna lie. I think the series just took an unfortunate turn. I was excited after episode 5 to see where this was going, but oof.

There was still some great moments, but not liking the impact of the reveal at all.
