So, is anybody still watching this? I thought the first 5 episodes were so great. But these last three, I think they kind of went off the rails.

Some of it is still great. But now there seems to be camp. and the larger conspiracy that had been brewing in the background for those first five episodes is now kind of lame.

The worst part about the conspiracy is that it actually detracts from one of the central theme of the original book and novel, which was faith in the church can defeat real evil. Blatty wrote The Exorcist was to inspire faith. The series has now turned that on its head.

I'm still in. I have to admit that tonight's ending caught me by surprise. But the bloom is off the rose. I'd still recommend the first five episodes to anyone. But I'd also say it's okay to drop off after those five now.

That certain ly was a shocking moment. For as many problems as I am having with this second half of the season, there are still many good moments, and that was one.

Unfortunately it came at the end of some pretty painful dialogue between Angela and her mom. There are times when the show reverts to sappy drama in the middle of what should be devastating horror for all involved. It could have been a Judging Amy scene. And this is at moment when

But that moment may be what the show needs to get back on track. It was the shocking reveal at the end of the 5th episode that shifted gears the first time. I was excited about what they might do, but obviously less thrilled with what we ended up with.

But once again, everything changes. Well, everything but

I feel like this last episode saved the show from the downward spiral this season has been on since the fantastic first 5 episodes. No, it was not as good as those early episodes, but I do like what they are doing with the larger story now.

It no longer feels like it fits in the Exorcist universe, but there was some good possession horror going on. Of course, there is just one more episode, so we will see if the pope survives. I have my doubts about this making a second season.

But Geena Davis was having a blast going full on evil. That actually worked for me. The new hierarchy of the evil cabal was fun and creepy. And Father Tomas may have finally grown up and started acting like an adult.

I'll watch a second season if it gets renewed.

And three episodes into season 2, and I can say that the show back in full form. It may be better than season one.

The season starts with our trusty exorcists on the run in the midwest, where Sheriff is not too happy about the exorcism they are performing on his wife. We also get a look at where they will end up, a home for foster children run by a too good to be true foster parent played by John Cho.

We also get a look at the conspiracy of possession taking place in the Vatican, as the war is now on many fronts. Not sure I like wasting time on a larger church conspiracy, but maybe this helps prevent the actual cases from getting too mundane and helps raise the stakes.

It make me wish that a similar reboot, Damien, had been given a shot at a second season. Now that show had some Satanic conspiracy to chew on. Damien had issues, but it really got better as the season went along. Unfortunately if a show on A&E doesn't hit quick, it won't find an audience.

Yeah Damien was really good, actually scarier than this show IMO..it's sad it didn't stick around.

Folks still watching this? Holy Hell last night's episode creeped and scared the bejeezus out of me. This season had a slow, albeit creepy start, but **** is hitting the fan and splattering everywhere now.

Best horror on TV right now, in my opinion.

I have to say, while they have really upped the horror elements, and gotten pretty intense and serious, the show is beginning to wimp out on actually letting people die.

The second to last episode was a hum dinger last night. Everything is bad now, the demon is winning, yet no one is actually dying. Had the show borrowed a bit from The Walking Dead and just killed off some popular characters, it would been 100 times more intense and powerful.

But it is still kicking *** and taking names in terms of TV horror, overall.

Well, the finale was a bit of a slow burn, and not all that satisfying, as they tried to have it both ways, ending the series and setting up the next chapter. I'm in if they move forward, but I'm not holding my breath.

The one thing that is always problematic is the exorcism itself. Two men, now joined by a third woman, holding crucifixes and screaming bible quotes is not the most satisfying way to represent a battle with a demon. I think this works better in a film than on TV, where we see it played out more often.

But man, I love, love, love the way they represent the demon taking over the host. It's not only a creepy effect, it lends itself to really fleshing out stories and and exploring themes. Allowing Tomas to enter the minds of these hosts and battle the demon from within is pretty cool, too.

I'm not sure how much I trust this series to execute a full on assault of a Catholic Church that has been besieged by demons in the highest positions. I still think exorcism horror works best on a micro level, as priest works with families to free their loved ones' souls. There larger conspiracy is an interesting tale, but pretty hard to within the context of this story.

But if the show comes back, that's what I think we will see.
