Re: Ray Donovan Season 4
Just finishing up s 03 and while I enjoyed s 01, I thought it started to go over the top in 2 and 3 bringing in too many intense elements too quickly. Should have spent more time on some of the lesser characters' development and extend some of the scenes. The rapid fire scenes tend to ruin this series for me. But it's like a trainwreck.....hard to watch and hard to look away. -
Re: Ray Donovan Season 4
I agree with your assessment daflyboys.
Season 1 seemed more grounded in reality and was more of a slow burn.
Season 2, and especially Season 3, took it to a new comic-booky level.
I also wish the show kept it's slower pace and let some of the storylines flesh out.
But I'm still loving this series. I think it may have actually surpassed GoT on my list.Comment

Re: Ray Donovan Season 4
Ray's new outlook, although still evolving, is a welcome change.
At age 46 Abby's "physique" isn't shabby.
Suggestion for Lena-you're too hot to have your hair covering half of your face.Comment

Re: Ray Donovan Season 4
Season 5 starts this Sunday (August 6) with Susan Sarandon in a season long recurring role.
Below is a short preview video of episode one, just like the ones during the season that preview the next week.
SPOILER ALERT

Re: Ray Donovan Season 4
I have to admit, last season was kind of 'meh' for me.
I've loved this series since Day 1 and I'll continue to watch it.
But I kind of hope they go back to Ray being a bad-*** cleaner who has his crap together.
Some of the things that bothered me:
Spoiler
How he was so scared of those Eastern European mobsters for an entire season and then in the end, he decides to kill them. All 4 of them. It took them longer to make a sandwich than to clear them out. Shouldn't that have been done in the first episode?
Ray literally did nothing to the cop that was banging his wife. I would have thought Ray, and all his connections, would have done something more than just let sleeping dogs lie.
He gets his brother out of jail, no questions asked, after he was convicted of armed robbery?
I know he has pull, but even that was far-fetched.
His daughter's relationship to a teacher was cleaned-up in a hurry. Literally with one line of dialogue.
I'm guessing they scrapped that story arc due to actor unavailability? Or due to some off-screen issues?
It seemed rushed and lacked a proper ending.
And, again, I would have preferred it ended with Ray handling things.
There's more, but I don't want to drag it out.
I really do like this show, but after last season, I kind of felt like they should be wrapping this series up.
The main reason I don't want them to is Mickey. John Voight deserves an Emmy.
He is to this show what The Hound is to GoT's.

As flawed as Mickey (Voight) is he went against character by showing a lot of unselfishness with the prison and mob takedown thing, but you have to wonder not if but when selfish Mickey rears its ugly head. Reportedly he will be residingSpoilerin Ray's house to start the season off.

Re: Ray Donovan Season 4
I wouldn't say I disliked Episode 1, "Abby", but I also didn't love it.
I wonder if the entire season will be like this, where it goes back and forth in time, explaining what happened to Ray, Abby, that kid their daughter is getting high with,...
Mickey is great as always.
One thing I was shocked to see is C Thomas Howell playing a bit part.
Or maybe his role will expand as the season progresses.
One thing I do know is that I was very pleased to see Lili Simmons in this season.
She is an absolute smokeshow. Loved her in Banshee and True Detective S1.Comment

Started the show last year when me and the wife got back from out honeymoon. We binged the entire series. Awesome show, but I wasn't too big of a fan of the last season. It felt somewhat uneven. It's sort of funny but she my wife told my father in law the series is back on, he said " I've seen a few episodes, all the series is, is his father going to prison and Ray acting like a bad ***, turning an impossible situation around." And frankly that's what I personally love aboutthe series.
The way this season is going, I'm already uninteresting. I want the crazy composed Ray, not this broken shell. And what makes this worst is that instead of just telling us what happened and moving along with the story, the season feels like it's going to incorporate flashbacks every episode. I really don't want that. I like Abby and all, but please move beyond this and give us our usual Mr. Donovan back!!!!!!Comment
