    Re: Ray Donovan Season 4

Just finished episode 2, much better episode than the first one. I'm still not in love with the constant flashbacks but there's something genuinely nice about seeing Abby and Ray happy. It's awesome to see them like that after season of anger, cheating and distrust; they were finally truly happy.

With that being said I would love for them to wrap these flashbacks and move on with a current story.

I think Jaybee is right; the flashbacks are likely to continue throughout the season.

I enjoyed last nights episode as well.
BTW, I want to see Ray lose it on the boyfriend.

Bunchy was hilarious too. Took matters into his own hand.
      But the brothers retort to Bunch was pretty funny also;

I'm showing my age in this, but I recall CT Howell being a somewhat big deal in the 80's after being in E.T., The Outsiders, Red Dawn, the Hitcher and Soul Man.
After the Outsiders, he was tabbed as the next great male actor.
His career went off the rails shortly after though, similar to Christian Slater - who was also highly touted.

And you're absolutely right, Sarandon looks fantastic for her age. Heck, most women in their 30's would like to look that good.

Half way through this latest episode, I'm really not feeling this season. There's nothing captivating about it. I can't stand the James girl he's practically babysitting. The lady he's working for is bland and boring as heck. All the exicitment of the show has worn off. It seems like this might be the last season, what a bland way to end such a good show.

I finally caught up watching the last four episodes this week and I will say it wasn't a breeze. The show is a mess with Avi going off the rails, Abby "flashback dying", Bridget inexplicably going nuts, a madman with Bunch's money, etc., etc., etc.

Ten episodes down two to go.

Okay, I think I need a refresher on something.
Mickey spent 20-years in prison and we're under the assumption that Ray framed him for that.
                What was Mickey convicted for?

                Spoiler

And what's up with Terry and that magician trick?

I've read before that Liev Schreiber was basically the Michael Jordan of stage acting.
I'm wondering if he's pushing his agenda in Season 5, making it way more artsy-fartsy.

I'm still kind of bummed what they did to Avi. I really liked his character. I hope he cleans up and returns as the badass he once was.
I also want to see more of Terry and his new boxing protege.

I felt really bad for Bunchy. Poor guy.
But was it wrong of me to focus most of my attention on how much hotter his wife is this season, as she's breaking his heart?

Michael Jordan? At the very least he's got quite a theater resume, but I wonder if he was hamming it up wouldn't he be pickier about some of the material that this show churns out that he actually has to read? This show has and had some great dialogue and good ideas but much of the writing is undisciplined.

Ray and Ezra framed Mickey for the murder of Ray's girlfriend. It was actually a well-known actor (Sean Walker) that did the killing but he was high on drugs that Mickey sold him. So you have a weak rationalization for the frame but equally important you have Ray/Ezra using it as a springboard for their fixer business.

Not a lot of interest in the series (The season 4 thread is actually the season 4 & 5 thread), but Susan Sarandon is now a series regular as the show sets itself mostly in New York.

Showtime needs to learn when to let a show die.

It's all about money. Ratings have been consistent with a slight decrease last year, but I guess they figure the New York move might shake things up.

I thought last year was pretty dreadful.

Oh, I don't fault them pumping out more seasons is the audience is there. I just find Showtime will milk more out of a show that should have ended seasons ago (Homeland and The Affair are two of the most recent examples), longer than other premium channels. Guess I would like to see them practice some better quality control in that area is all.

I loved the first few season, I thought the last season was pretty bad as well. I just didn't like the flash backs intertwining with the present stuff, it was just too out of left field for me. Hopefully this season is a much better season.

I do like the characters and it's always fun to see Ray bash people up.

Agree with everything you said except The Affair is still going strong (IMO) and they just announced next year's fifth season will be its last.
