    Re: Cord cutting

I mentioned it in the MLB OT thread but it just flabberghasts me how TV is so rigged. I'm willing to pay $130 for MLB.TV (so I can also get MLB Network) but local Braves games are blacked out. I'm just not going to pay $60/month for a whole TV package and it's not available in any a la carte stuff.

We're in 2021 yet we still get viable options here. I feel like there is a lot of $$ some of these sports are giving up with stuff like this.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I am not a big MLB fan but I love NBA, NFL and I watch sharks in NHL and you can get like all 3 of those for like 500 a year and that is way cheaper than cable but blackouts. I think the only reason blackouts are a thing is because if they where not than I think a lot of sports fans would get rid of cable/dish/sat etc. Its really the only reason I have cable any more has I dont watch a lot of shows on tv and even less so with having things like disney+, Hulu etc now. Heck summer time with no nfl,nba and NHL I am basically paying for cable for a few months for no reason has I dont really watch tv in summer time.

Any of yall try a vpn to get around geo-restrictions?

2021 = pay for service + pay for another service to help you get full access to your service.
Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
        Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
        Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!

I came here to talk just this. I have been in scheme mode all week so I can watch the Rockies. A vpn service I normally use is not letting the MLB app load on the Roku for some reason. I started a subscription to AT&T Tv so I could access the RSN that the Rockies play on. Problem is that AT&T is so expensive, I don't like its interface like I do YTTV, and lacks many of the channels that are available on YTTV. I have gone to standby mode trying to figure out my next move.

I tell you, The "MLB has a deal with cable/Satellite companies" theory is spot on. How else can you explain the blackout rule. We're coming out of a pandemic where no one was in the stands and now only partial, so you'd think MLB would want to beef up its MLB.TV numbers.

          Frustrated in Colorado!

It has nothing to do with cable/sat it is the channels that are broadcasting the games. They have exclusive rights within the very old TV market boundaries for all MLB teams.

Until those channels offer online viewing locally, you are out of luck. Generally the only way was to pay for cable/sat and use that login to stream. FOX did that but not sure what the plans are now that most of the stations changed ownership.

Whatever the reason, it makes no sense and pisses me off. But thank you for setting me straight. It's always nice to have someone around that knows everything.

The title of this thread is so misleading.
You guys haven’t cut the cord at all.
Left cable because you were getting gouged, then sign up for mediocre streaming “services” that still gouge, don’t give you what you are really after and still have to deal with blackouts.
If your gonna cut the cord, then do it!... properly.

Yes, only theft of services is cutting the cord properly.

Can't argue with that sense of entitlement.

I ended up going the ATT TV route. It cost 15 bucks a month more than I was paying for YTTV. Not much of an impact, and at this point I may prefer it over YTTV.

Yeah, it is a tough call for us, but ATTTV doesn't have NFL Channel/Redzone or locals (we can't access with antenna) and not too impressed with the features as compared to YTTV.

Do you have the ATTTV box or using the app?

Ugh. Now YTTV and Roku are having issues extending their contract.
