      Re: Cord cutting

I remember when this thread started I was under the impression that cord cutting as a thing was due to the constant raise in cable prices.

So fast forward to today, and I'm not convinced what I thought back then to be true is true...lol

The cost of some of these services is WAY beyond what the wife and I were paying with cable, is the draw of getting rid of cable the contracts? Because obviously with the streaming apps there is no contracts.

I guess I'm lost on what the appeal is with getting rid of cable vs using streaming apps.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

ESPN/ABC, TNT and CBS keep giving these sports leagues more and more money to air their product, so they just keep demanding more money from the YoutubeTV's of the world to make up for it. Until cable goes away for good, and people finally tap out on paying $80-$100 to watch the 2 channels that they actually care about, the prices will keep going up.

I just signed up for YouTube TV as spending $250 a month for Directv was just too much now that they didn't have Sunday Ticket. Avoiding having to pay for cable boxes all over my house, not paying for an overpriced channel lineup and not dealing with a satellite dish were all positives. Having said that the delay between YouTube and Directv is enormous (10+ seconds) and the DVR is a convoluted mess that really makes me miss Directv's DVR setup but cutting costs was more important then both, currently.

I settled on Fubo. The cost compared to YTTV is higher and it doesn't carry Turner programming (so it was challenging to catch the end of the NBA Eastern Finals); however, it has MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA channels and the RSNs to watch the Nuggets and Avalanche.

The picture quality is consistently grainy and its rewind isn't as good as YTTV. With that, I often wonder if I shouldn't just go back to satellite. I would be paying the same for Dish as I am Fubo, quality would be better, and I would get all the channels that I would want.

Cord-cutting as a sports fan is quite the adventure.

I hear ya. I had a two year promo with Direct TV/ATT a few years ago. ATT was a major PITA to deal with and every time it even threatened to rain my feed would go out. Never again.

Made more sense when I was paying 40 bucks for YTTV. The ability to stream everywhere in the house is a major plus for streaming as opposed to cable or satellite when I needed a box however big or small to watch TV.

Now Directv has a thing where if the weather knocks out your feed you can continue to watch using your internet until it comes back, basically piggy backing off their stream setup so weather issues are less of an issue. To clarify, you keep watching through the box on your TV it just pushes the feed over your internet connection now, you don't have to switch over to anything else.

I am hoping and praying I can one day get back to having DirecTV.

Streaming YoutubeTV "ain't it." The delays, the stupid interface and functionality, the terrible recording/DVR situation, the channels coming on and off on a whim, etc. Just awful. Only thing that's nice is when you need to quickly fire up something on the computer or phone when away from your TV.

I haven't had any of the issues you are referencing with YoutubeTV and I have had it for almost 5 years. I have tried all the other streaming services and had DirecTV and I much prefer YoutubeTV.

Same. I wish MLBN was still part of it, but that's my only issue I've had with the service since I started it years ago

The delay isn't really a debatable issue. It's just a fact with all streaming live TV services. If you are watching live sports you are getting a delay.

There’s been a delay in watching on live TV the last couple of years that has eroded any advantage they used to have. I consistently get end of quarter or scoring alerts on my phone before my TV, and can usually just stream from websites on my PC that keep up better. It’s basically like they’re streaming it to us anyway.

I’m always pausing games anyway so unless one of friends or family members text me I’m all good. YTTV has a good feature where you can hide scores so I enable that and then disable the notification feature on most apps.

Is it like that? I haven't had normal TV/cable in forever. I just know that streaming live sports on Sling/YTTV/etc, it's always like 15 seconds behind.
