Anyone hear of this company?

It's Android IPTV software.

I am wondering about the legalities of the whole thing.

The company stating everything we put in the box is legal, it's

what's you do with the downloaded apps is up to the user.

I looked into the iptv stuff a couple of years ago. My understanding back then was that's it's not illegal to download the apps, but once you use it to watch anything that you would have to pay for, it becomes illegal.

It's a gray area. There are ones that are legal and ones that aren't. I haven't done any research in a years but they were taking content from other countries where it is cheap and then streaming it to you.

If there are no providers in your country, generally it's not illegal, but anything you would want to watch will have some contract for the US.

I've seen some sales at home and patio shows but never checked to see what content they included. Virtually all of them will be pirated stuff, may have malware on the boxes, and risking the viewing isn't illegal defense.

Did ya hear? We’re getting a half baked sports streaming app with Warner, Disney, and Fox combining their sports assets for some yet-to-be-named (and priced) streaming service. I think it makes the problem less confusing (“oh, I’ll go to Sports App to watch the Sports Game!”) but ultimately doesn’t solve it (somehow being piecemealed even worse than cable packages).

Waiting for the CBS/NBC collab… though maybe not. Paramount+ and Peacock allow you to stream their network channels. Disney+ and Max don’t really have a “home” network and FOX doesn’t have any similar streaming app (as in i can’t watch football on FOX via the Fox News app or something like that).

Saw price quoted at $40-$50. Seems steep but I’d have to see the selection. That’s only a bit cheaper than a streaming TV subscription.

ESPN is also going direct to consumer streaming. Not ESPN+, but an ESPN channels streaming package. Yeah, totally not confusing and ridiculously for the consumer (I’m sure there’s a great business reason). I bet ESPN+ will roll in to that or vice versa eventually.

Not sure why they would announce that a day after announcing partnership with the others. Perhaps for those who want just a slice of what that app will be. $ needs to make sense.

No because they pay premium money to have them, and will continue to because they would lose a lot of subscriptions without live sports channels

Yeah these companies are double dipping with both streaming and cable subs. They’re trying to balance not cannibalizing their own business with expanding their offering. It’s a weird in between

That's about where I assumed the price would be at, even before knowing exactly how many channels will be included. If they did a scaled down version with no DVR or on-demand content at all for $20 that would interest me more, but that's probably not realistic.

Right, the "problem" is we never truly got the "a la carte" some people thought it was coming. They can't do it because if they did some channels would see a humongous drop in audience and go away so that's why they get bundle.

Even with these 3 big companies coming together there is so much that is missing. The big four (NBC, ABC, CBS & FOX), the league's networks, the other more specific channels like the Golf Channel / Tennis Channel etc.

It is never happening for us! NEVER!

It doesn't really sound like this offers anything new, though, like it sounds more like a way to group your existing subscriptions in a more navigable format, with bonus channels that no one watches thrown in, which is what Roku already does, so, idunno, maybe I'm misunderstanding something

Nah you’re understanding exactly right. On the surface it seems like we’re finally getting what we want, but they’re really just splitting out sports exclusively for like $20 less than a whole YouTubeTV, Sling, etc subscription.

There’s still too much content missing to make it truly worth it. Unless I missed it, no regional sports networks. I just jumped from Sling to YTTV so I could catch Flyers games. Had to sacrifice MLB & NHL Network for my troubles. Streaming has just become a different flavor of hustle than cable.

Thank you for all of your recommendations and suggestions.

We are now a youtube tv watching family.

So far, so good.

I wondered what was going on when youtube tv was refreshing and reloading

sporadically throughout viewing. And our computers were sporadically reloading during

the day.

Finally, figured out to get a new wifi router.

After going through those motions(and darn every wireless device needs a router reboot),

last evening, the Roku froze. I changed the Roku batteries nothing, unplugged Roku, and

wala, back in business.
