    Re: Cord cutting

Man that is disappointing. It floors me that these premium tv services have ever had commercials in anything but free plans. The lack of commercials has remained the sole benefit of some of these services versus cable now that every network seems to have their own paywalled content separate from a cable package.

At least Amazon's is included with the overall prime membership that I get a lot of value out of. I won't be using amazon video anymore though. It's too bad that you can't remove Prime Video from the overall package. I would happily get rid of it with this change if I could save just $5 a year.

Same man! Was watching Paramount+ a couple years back and was like, wait why are there commercials? I thought that was the whole point of subscribing to the service! So you didn’t have to sit through all that crap. I don’t know who or when the started doing that but it’s the norm now, clearly. Pay more, get less.

Some of these services are just wayyy overpriced and you have to be a superfan of some of the brands or content to stick with them (he says as he carries a few subscriptions himself... lol). I just switched Disney+ and Hulu to the bundle with ESPN and it’s $5-6 cheaper than if I had JUST Disney+ and Hulu standalone. I think they’re like $14 and $17 a month now but the bundle is $25 or so.

Goalposts keep moving. Gotten to the point I’m sometimes happy to pay a few bucks less to sit through ads so the service can continue to be supported — and I HATE cutting these multi billion dollar companies a break (use it or lose it). We need the break! But I knew we would eventually start to see a consolidation and/or shuttering when every. single. brand had a streaming service. Unsustainable. Hell, two relatively successful ones are merging in to one because they’re owned by the same company (Disney & Hulu). I heard HBO Max (sorry it’ll never just be Max... that’s ****ing stupid) and Paramount+ were in talks to merge.

        Anyone hear of this company?

        It's Android IPTV software.

I am wondering about the legalities of the whole thing.

The company stating everything we put in the box is legal, it's

what's you do with the downloaded apps is up to the user.

Not the same thing, but I always thought it was total bull**** that some mobile streaming apps (NFL+ for example) won’t let you cast or directly connect via HDMI adapter to your TV. I think the excuse is that whatever technological process is done there is the same as one would do to pirate/stream the game on one of those torrenting sites but it’s like, I bought this, this and that and they won’t work because some bad guy somewhere is doing a bad thing.

I looked into the iptv stuff a couple of years ago. My understanding back then was that's it's not illegal to download the apps, but once you use it to watch anything that you would have to pay for, it becomes illegal.

It's all a la carte or will be soon. I just dropped YTTV tired of paying like 80 bucks a month for what is mostly junk anyway. If I really want to watch OTA I have a cheap antennae that picks up everything anyway. We have Hulu Netflix with adds and Prime Video. Little less than 30 bucks. If I feel the need to see something on one of the premium networks I can do a month and binge watch the season for peanuts. Like Outlander stuff like that.

Netflix with adds does lock you out of some content but some movies have no commercials and those shows with adds have short commercials. Better than sitting through what seems like 3-4 minutes of commercials on YTTV.

I got about 5 other people on my YTTV account and they each send me $10 a month for it. They can use it but they’re also going to pay and they have no problem doing that.

Our roof is being replaced and the roofers needed to take down the dish(Directv) and won't put it back up. The earliest Directv can come out is Jan 5th.

So, I thought it would be a good time to look at alternatives. My wife loves the DVR of Directv and I like to pick up the local sports teams. We are paying $140 per month currently for 2 receivers.

From what I am reading here, maybe it's best we hold onto the Jan 5th date and get by until then.

I have always highly recommended YouTube TV if you have good enough internet. We pay $78/month now I think, and I got Sunday ticket for $250 back in June. Has DVR capabilities, local channels, etc

You're paying 30 I was paying 80. For 30 which is what in essence you pay I would have kept it.

I would agree with you to hold onto the date. In the current conditions, one has to sacrifice something to save not that much. If you subscribe to YTTV, you won't have access to any RSNs or the MLB Channel. If you go the Fubo route, you will have access to the channels above, but no TBS/TNT (if you're into NBA and NHL) nor the MLB Channel, and pay about $20-$30 less than what you're paying now.

My examples are from my experiences and wishes, so what I've said is arguable, so I am not interested in debating or defending. I happen to split the YTTV sub. with my nephew so I do save a bit; but, I miss Dish (I couldn't get local channels with Directv) for having all that I want and how you could rewind, slow motion, and navigate so smoothly. Always a buffer-wait with streaming.
