Looking at my Verizon account, seeing a promotional offer ... Netflix and Max for $10/mo. OK not bad. Then seeing the inevitable "with ads" on both. Reminds me of being a kid and hearing family members complain about cable TV, " I have to pay money to watch commercials?" I thought it was an odd complaint. But now I get it lol.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/01/venu...-audience.html
The Disney/WBD/Fox sports streaming service is (supposedly) coming this Fall, at an initial price point of $42.99 per month.
Venu will give consumers access to a bundle of networks: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, and truTV. Subscribers will also get ESPN+. The plan is to debut in time for the football season. It doesn't include CBS and NBC, two networks that have the rights to many sports, including college football and NFL games.
Not having CBS/NBC obviously hurts, to the point of questioning the value of spending $40-$50 for something incomplete vs spending $70-$75 for everything. Once you go beyond the $10-$20 territory it feels like a sizeable monthly investment regardless.
I feel like I will try the free trial, realize how little time I would spend actually watching these channels, and then peace out.Last edited by dubcity; 08-01-2024, 10:57 PM.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
YTTV is going up $10 in January to $82.99 a month. I figured another hike was coming, but was hoping it would be more like $5 a month.
I'm pretty happy with YTTV, so I'll probably stick with it for now, but it's getting to the point where I'm considering alternatives.
And if I'm going to pay an extra $10 a month, I'd like to see MLBN back.Comment

Its getting to the point where I am going to have to revaluate all of the streaming services and see whats worth spending the money on. Especially since everyone is increasing prices.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
I have YouTubeTV just for sports and so much daughter can occasionally watch stuff. If there was packages where it wwe Fox Sports, CBS, ESPN, and NBC sports, I would be good.
This past year, once Sixers got knocked out of the playoffs, I stopped YouTubeTV until the start of the CFB season. That saved me 4 months worth of payments. I'll do the same thing. I took advantage of the Hulu/Disney+ $2.99 a month deal and have access to other streaming apps thru family, so I'm only using YouTubeTV just for sports.Comment

Re: Cord cutting
I was with Sling from September through November, included NFL, NHL and MLB Network but does not have my local NBC Sports for Flyers games. I got the sports pack for the sports channels and RedZone.
Moved to YTTV in December as football winds down and hockey is in full swing, but I don’t get NHL or MLB Network now even with the sports pack.
I was looking at FUBO around the same time and balked because the price was a bit more then YTTV, but I think after adding the sports package on YTTV they come out pretty close, and FUBO offers both the regional sports network and the league networks at the higher tier.
It feels like Sling and YTTV are incomplete. You’re sacrificing a major piece of your viewing experience for a bit cheaper price. FUBO appears to be the one for sports fans, but then I’m not sure how their service is and if their apps are available on the devices I use (PS4 and Xfinity flex box).
This is TV / sports watching hell.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

It just feels like we have to compromise/sacrifice what we want or pay cable prices. For the most part, YTTV provides what I need. Just unfortunate that the price keeps going upComment

Re: Cord cutting
Ugh. There is no one good option, probably by design.
TBS/TNT is on HBO Max, but you need the upgraded tier to stream those channels live. Stifled again, ha.
Not too bad a loss as the others as the most important stuff on those channels will be NHL or MLB playoffs, which are only for a limited time. Still, shouldn’t have to play a game and answer a riddle to watch sports…NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Feel like considering what you get with YTTV, that $72 a month feels about…right.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Cord cutting
YTTV going up another $10...been playing this game for several years now thinking that cutting-the-cord was my power as a consumer to have some sort of control, but it's all been farce.
We are only paying slightly less than the cable/satellite days. In some ways we have more, in most ways we have less. My wife and I go through funks in not having anything to watch even though we have everything to watch.
It's time to how we need to keep playing this game. It's getting ridiculous to me.Comment
