    DirecTV Now

So has any of my OS brothers taking the plunge and got DirecTV Now yet?
I am going to order it tonight. I just cant pay $180 a month for WIFI and Cable anymore.
I will be getting wifi from Century Link for $35 a month and Cable from DirecTV now for $35 a month, saving me $110 a month!
Not to sound like a commercial but if you sign up for DirecTV Now right now, you get a free Amazon Fire Stick and are locked into one of the premium cable packages for $35 a month.
I will be able to hook it up and start watching it in my living room tonight as my living room TV is a smart TV. I will put the fire stick in my bedroom.
Kind of nervous and excited to see how this works as I have been wanting to "cut the cord" for a long time now! I shall report back.

    Re: DirecTV Now

I wouldn't do this because I have Vue and I'm not ok with the 35 for streaming on one device on Directv now or whatever it is.

However, the point im trying to make with that is, cutting the cord was a fine transition.

If I never have to go back I never will.

You will be just fine my man.

      Re: DirecTV Now

23, DTVNow allows two streams and don't have to be local.

Jake, I switched to DTVNow from Vue and love the stream quality overall above Vue's. Vue has a better UI and runs smoother but can't match the value from DTVNow.

Also, I took the Fire Stick deal, but I think the better value is on prepaying 3 months and getting an ATV.

Need an Xbox App and we're in probably. Sling was a complete failure for us due to constant buffering during football and the few other things we watched.

Vue isn't an option because there's obviously no Xbox app coming anytime soon and we're trying to avoid buying and adding more devices being added to our TVs where possible.

There's no DVR option with Now, correct? I think that'll be a tough sell for some.

            Re: DirecTV Now

No DVR, limited rewind/fast forward capabilities, but some stations have up to a 72 hour window of viewing for their programming once it's aired I guess so a couple of days later you can still watch it.

              Re: DirecTV Now

So after messing around with DTN all night last night there are a couple cons and pros.

              Pros-
Cheap, I added HBO and I am pretty much getting every channel I had on Comcast for 1/3 of the price! I am paying just $5 per month for HBO, I was paying $10 for it on Comcast.

I actually like how easy it is to find shows and movies on it.
Easily switching from room to room with no extra charge.
Comcast charged me $14.99 per room that I had cable in.

Cheap, did I mention how cheap it was? lol
My cable/wifi expense will go down from $183.99 per month, to $70 per month.

              Cons-
No live local channels. This sux, I mean really sux! I will be getting an antenna soon so I can watch local channels on my TV. I couldn't watch the IU football bowl game last night because it was on FOX. Again I realize I can just get an antenna for local channel's but switching from the fire stick back to an antenna will become a nuisance to me. I will need to get 3 antenna's to for each room I have a TV in.

I am not going to lie, I loved the new XFINITY system that Comcast recently came out with. It was super user friendly to me. So far and I know it may be because I am not use to it, but not having a guide is not user friendly at all to me.

No DVR, this really stinks because I hardly ever watch shows when they are on.
I typically would DVR everything and then watch it later so I can FF thru commercials.
I am not going to be able to do this anymore.

In conclusion I am happy so far and don't regret turning off cable at all.
I also read last night that DTN is working on a DVR Cloud which would be great and I ready they are working on making it more user friendly. I am sure they will "upgrade" DTN over time and make me like my decision even more.

The 2 main reasons I went ahead and made the switch now are.
              1. To get locked in at getting the upgraded package for $35 a month. And they say my $35 a month is never going to change, my bill will never go up. I am locked in at $35.
              2. I wanted a Amazon Fire Stick anyway and they are sending me one for free. I paid $35 or 5 weeks (7 days for free and the one month I paid for) of DTN and I get a Fire Stick. If after 5 weeks I don't like DTN I can simply cancel my services at no charge.

When I called to cancel Comcast last night they told me I was paid up till 1/13/17. So it would stay on until then. They also told me that with it being the Holiday Season they had no one in their Customer Care department working last night that could offer me a deal to stay. They told me someone would call me after the new year to offer me a deal to stay with them. We shall see.

Live local channels are available in my area, other than CBS. CBS does offer their All-Access service for $5-6 a month. I'm also subscribed to the NFL Sun Tic streaming package. And, possibilities are endless with the Fire Stick, if you're interested.

I, like you, wanted to lock in the pricing. I'm happy overall even with the bumps and bruises the service is going through on the way.

Does DirecTV Now automatically ensure you have the ability to use WatchESPN ? I know with Sling I can use my log in and access WatchESPN.

I'm somewhere on the fence between trying Vue or DirecTV Now. All we really need Live in my house in local channels (which we get from antenna) and sports. Everything else comes through Prime or Netflix so Sling has been a great value so far. I just wish FS1/2 and USA Network were offered on Sling Orange.

I've been using Sling for the past few weeks on Xbox One and have had, surprisingly, very few issues with it.

I really want to get this service instead while you can get locked into the $35/month rate for the Go Big package, but no Xbox app is a deal breaker for me.
