Just saw it and WOW! this movie was freaking incredible, loved every minute of it. All you've heard about Joaquin Phoenix in the role was dead on, dude killed it ...you really felt bad for Arthur during the movie with all he was going through.

About the ending

Even though most knew that he was going to kill Murray it was still crazy to see it play out and actually happen.

I'm still thinking about this movie. There are some haunting parts that stay with you.

I can't stop thinking about how painful his laugh was. Phoenix had to dig in deep to there. I'm always gonna think of Phoenix's laugh now whenever I hear Joker.



One of the tenses scenes in the movie was when Arthur stabbed his friend in the eye. I was certain he was gonna do something to little man but he let him go. Every second in that scene, anything could have happened. Awesome.



The little increments of him slowly losing it was awesome. It wasn't one bad day that made him into the Joker, it was many.



I do hope to hear Todd Philipps interpretation on the ending, I was just so shoook by then I couldn't grasp what he was going for. Hopefully he'll have a commentary on it.



I wished it ended when he made the blood smile. Such a bad *** scene. I also liked that homage to Ledger when you see that shot of Joker in the back of the police car.

I also forgot to add how well directed and beautiful it looked. I also see noms for direction and cinematography and adapted screenplay.

I had such an uneasiness in my body during the climax of the film. Heart was pounding. Never experienced anything like that before watching a movie.

Saw the movie tonight. I liked the twist thought it was interesting and surprising but the movie over all i didnt care for much was expecting it to be better.

Seemed a little slow in spots. The scenes with the mother

were necessary but boring. His eruption on the subway where he's shooting the three jerks didn't have much of an impact on me even when the last victim is crawling for his life. I thought the two off-screen deaths scenes involving the "imagined girlfriend" and therapist could have been done more dramatically.

Only my opinion but the movie falls short of being great.

Really made me feel sad for him and thinking about how we (as society) treat those different from us, and how one action we take seems small to us, could be the final straw that breaks the camel's back for them.

Great origin story.

Just came back, and thought it was very good and a unique telling. I personally don't think this was as great as hoped/hyped, though it definitely delivered by the time the credits rolled. I have absolutely no need for it to be more deeply rooted into comic book lore than it ever intended to be, so being a deviation from the elemental character origin was completely okay. Now that I know how the movie wanted to go down, if I see it again I may even find it to be worthy of certain Oscar considerations. Right now I'm not at that level, though.

However, I will say that this transcended the comic book movie genre every bit as much as The Dark Knight or Logan had. It would ultimately be a disservice to categorize this simply as a comic book movie based on its inherent nature, but given that it still is I think that it did wonders and will be extremely influential for other filmmakers down the road.

Joaquin Phoenix was incredible, though even when he was cast I was kind of thinking this is a little too perfect for him. He kind of became a bit different after he announced his retirement from acting about a decade ago, and I've enjoyed any performance he had been in since then, especially from the low-budget department.

My wife and I saw this yesterday and we both thought it was absolutely phenomenal. We spent the entire ride back home discussing it and probably another hour or so late last night.... there was so much to unpack. Really everything about it was prefect to me. I usually don't care about awards too much but if Phoenix doesn't win an Oscar for this then I'm going to be pretty upset for him.

I'll put my deeper thoughts into spoilers

I think the three most shocking/heartbreaking parts to me (in mo particular order) were as follows:

1) His mother being bat (no pun intended) **** crazy. His mom was pretty much all he has in the world and to find out that he was abused and adopted was just the cherry on top to all of the Thomas Wayne delusions.

2) The neighbor: I have to admit, I'm normally pretty good about these things, but I didn't see their relationship being all in his head coming. I kept thinking "man, he's really going to lose it when she breaks it off with him" I should have seen it but that twist really got me. Good ****.

3) Murray roasting him. Probably the saddest thing that I took for the movie was that Arthur wanted so bad just to be normal. He wanted a job, he asked for more medicine before losing it all and he wanted to be loved. You could tell that when he was daydreaming about being on Murray show and he hugged him at the end and IIRC Murray said something about him being a good son. So to me the reason he thought that was, Murray was the closest thing that Arthur had to a father-figure and that's sad because "knew" him from watching TV every night with his mother. Then for Murray to roast him was just another straw on the camels back.

Lastly, can we talk about how amazing the three scenes were from where he murdered the ex co-worker that gave him the gun (and letting the little person go; which just goes to show you how crazy he was because he didn't care about witnesses), then from there the dance down the stairs, then the police chase, the cop shooting the guy on the subway and the Joker dancing as the cops got beat to a pulp? I don't have any idea what the actual time was during that stretch but it has to be one of the greatest few minutes in movie that I've seen in a long, long time. I was in awe really.

And as far as the dancing down the stairs, can we just go ahead and say that's the new iconic movie moment? Like the Jack Rabbit Slims dance in Pulp Fiction or Patrick Swayze jumping off the stage in Dirty Dancing? Something that's going to be remembered for years to come. I'm calling it now, I hope you don't get too tired of seeing that because it's going to be around forever.

If you're on the fence about this, then I'd recommend you go see it. I went in with pretty high expectations and expected to be let down but it ended up exceeding by expectations. Go see it, for real.
