    Router Recommendations

Hey all, I'm in the market for a new router for the home because my current one is about to hit the bricks. Been a while since I've had to research them, just curious to see what you guys think I should be looking for in regards to brand, etc. Price really isn't an issue but I'd like to stick to no more than 200 bucks. Any help is much appreciated!

Just ordered this one (with a combo modem deal for 90 bucks from Amazon, but that deal expired) and do have a question.

NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk AC1750 Smart Dual Band WiFi Router (R6700)

Can you run cat5 out of 1 or more ports and run cat6 out of another port and get the desired effect by using cat6 (supposedly better transmission)? Looking to run just 1 cat 6 to my Amazon Fire TV box. Cat5 to my other devices is fine for now.

Is your internet more than 1 Gbps? If not, there may not be a need for cat6, cat5e would be fine. If you are running a wire through walls, go ahead and do cat6 or cat6a.

No, it's 150 speed. I do have a WD Livewire set up to get a better signal to my upstairs bedroom. Been working well lately. But I don't think that's what you meant. Thanks.

Basically unless you are streaming from a hard drive attached to the router, you will not get the 10 gigabit speed because everything else is running at 1 gigabit.

Ya, not doing that. I'm mainly trying to get the best speeds possible when wired or wireless, especially to my upstairs without having to do repeaters/extenders. I have an old extender and it's showing its' age. I don't really game other than a bit on my PC; mainly Fire TV's. 1 gb speed is available in my area now, but I can't justify the cost.

In a townhome roughly 1700 SF, though we don't use the finished basement as much as we used to.

This thing is installed and it is a beast! I'm getting up to 105 speeds on my Droid to the bedroom directly upstairs and up to 70 to my bedroom catty corner to the router position, where as previously got nothing or next to nothing. The Amazon Fire Stick is picking up 40+ rendering the ethernet adapter I bought for it practically useless! This was a great buy.

This router is awesome. Just got mine a few weeks ago. Def helped out my streams and gaming. And with kids hogging the net it seems it's working better with this new one from my previous Netgear. I have it US and DS setting. It's working great with YouTube TV and smart devices. I run single Cat5 to the PS4 and it's fast.
