The Sports Media Thread (sports on tv and radio)

we don't have a thread dedicated to sports media yet

here we can discuss new rights deals, broadcasters and the people who call the games here

first up is a huge new rights pickup for espn and espn+ the pga championship to be shared with cbs for 10 years starting in 2020

The PGA, golf's second major, is coming to ESPN and ESPN+, beginning in 2020, as part of a new, 11-year deal that extends through the 2030 event.

This thread is a good idea. If it catches on i'll report anything from the couple or so sports media/business podcasts that I listen to.

Richard Dietsch's latest has an interview with Jamele Hill. Excellent interview if you haven't heard it yet.

North of the border, Sportsnet just turned 20 years old. It's the only network I can think of that came up later than its legacy competition and completely blew it out of the water. It took a long time though, The first 5 years it looked like it wasn't going to make it as CTV went off and bought TSN and they were without a backer. It took Ted Rogers buying the Blue Jays and then Sportsnet to really kick things in gear. Now Sportsnet is easily the #1 sports TV/media brand in Canada.

speaking of sportsnet i heard rumors of them launching a OTT service to compete with DAZN, don't know how true they are

          Re: Sportsnet

There's already an OTT service but they're going tiered with Sportsnet+ which will lift regional restrictions on NHL games and add other sports. I'm guessing this opens up their Sportsnet World channel to those subscribers as well.

Anywho, a couple NBA media notes:

          - Candace Parker is joining TNT and NBATV. She will do games and studio work.

          - Players Only is moving to Tuesday nights on TNT.

          - NBA Gametime on NBATV will be rebranded as Gametime Live and there will now be an NBA Crunch time channel/service that's similar to NFL Redzone.

It wasn't specified when that's premiering.

the Jim ross report has good discussion sometimes in sports media as it pertains to Pro wrestling as Jim has been a insider in the business for so long working with WCW and WWE as a play by play guy

Over-the-top (OTT) streaming service FloSports has secured rights to broadcast the Women’s World Sevens Series and the Rugby Weekend via its FloRugby network. The platform will show aslo France’s and Scotland’s Autumn Internationals.. so if you are into rugby there's another service to pay for.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced multi-year partnerships with Radio 105 and Virgin Radio in Italy so if you're there you get to hear NBA games on the radio ( in italian of course)

For NFL news I like Around the NFL. The Ringer NFL show is good too. NBA news, I like the Ringer NBA Show.

I listen to the Bill Barnwell show every once in a while too.

Mostly though, I listen to local podcasts talking about the buckeyes and browns.
