"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Also 500K at USC is probably enough to get your name on a salt shaker. Takes a lot of money to run a good football program...c'mon now.Comment

I don't want to open up that can of worms but let's just say I have a liberal POV on these things and leave it at that.

Then maybe you should've said that in the first place. But now you're lumping everyone with money into the same pot. So EVERY successful Hollywood actor, EVERY professional athlete, EVERY successful writer, etc. will follow this credo? You can't know this.Comment

I wish they'd put Felicity and Loughlin and a few of the others in the same place for a few months and turn it into a reality show. Orange Is The New GreenOSFM23 - Building Better Baseball - OSFM23

14 days??? that's nothing, should have been 14 months. The rich get off all the time. If I jaywalked or had some weed I'd get more than 14 days. Lori probably won't make out as well, but her richness might get 30 days.Comment

Re: Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin In Hot Water

I'm sort of on the fence on this. They pretty clearly did wrong and should be punished, and on the one hand, who doesn't want to see Hollywood jerk-offs get some comeuppance once in a while (although I could think of others I'd rather see go down than Aunt Becky)? I was definitely finding the whole concept of them going to jail for this amusing, if I'm being honest.

However, as this has gone on, it does seem like federal prosecutors are trying to punish Loughlin and others for exercising their right to a trial. That part doesn't strike me as so funny. By piling on charges and potentially adding years to their sentencing, the massive disparity in charges between those who plead out and those who will exercise their 6th amendment rights seems like a problem to me.

Plea deals don't seem to be about mercy these days; it increasingly seems like they are about intimidating defendants into giving up the right to a trial.Comment

I'm not anti-Hollywood but she will get her comeuppance-but how years should she get? Five? Six? Ten? DELETEDLast edited by JayBee74; 05-11-2020, 04:38 PM.Comment
