Spider Man OUT of the MCU.

Spider-Man is out of the MCU due to an inability between Sony and Disney to reach new terms that would have given Disney a co-financing stake moving forward. Marvel is/was asking for a 50/50 stake, doesn't seem like Sony ever made a counter offer.

Sucks as a fan but I guess I get it from a business point of view on both sides. I wonder how the stars feel, the series they signed on to is going in a very different direction than they probably intended.

      That just seems messed up.

Does that mean if a deal is ever reached years from now, we'll see another reboot reboot

Also for reference if Marvel's deal was in place for Far From Home, Sony would've only $550 million on it, which is $150M less than they have made for any other stand alone Spiderman movie. Just wanted to point that out for reference when the "wtf is Sony doing" takes come in.

And now Variety has said talks are at an impasse and a deal could get done.

Disney's Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have hit an impasse on new financing terms for upcoming Spider-Man movies.

I have no idea how everything works but if it goes 50/50, wouldn't that mean Sony is paying half of the production costs as well? But I'm not sure who's covering those costs at the moment. Plus I'm sure Disney could work in that Sony gets a percent of any crossover movie Spiderman is man and Sony wouldn't have to pay a thing for those movies.

Hey. Finally a legitimate loss to the MCU.

I'd still say 'wtf is Sony doing' because nobody should think of this in terms of a single movie. You can't make Homecoming or Far From Home without Spider-Man in the MCU. Not being in the MCU is what got us dubstep Electro and dancing emo-Toby.

                  You mean you didnt like

I loved Spiderman 1 and 3. Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin and by 3 we saw James Franco trying to avenge his dad and go after Peter.

This is super disappointing. I loved everything spider man in this universe. Was so looking forward to have Spidey team up with Fantastic 4 and X men. Damn

I appreciate your confidence. I hope it's true. Seems crazy that Marvel wouldn't do whatever it took to get the rights considering how important the character seems to be going into Phase 4

It's too mutually beneficial for a deal to not eventually get done.

A huge hole in the MCU going forward without Spider-Man. And Sony is looking at yet another reboot without Marvel.

And it's now official. Sony released a statement saying they plan to move on with Spiderman with the help of Feige or Marvel.

Sony Pictures is vowing to carry on the Spider-Man franchise without Marvel Studios’ involvement, placing the blame on Disney for cutting the successful inter-studio cooperation short.
