I haven't followed anything apart from watching the first teaser. If its anything like the show it'll have moments of greatness, some even masterful, but still somehow miss a couple of marks.

The reviews are disappointing. If you're following The Sopranos or "prequelling" them it helps to be great.

I would be surprised if it was anything but a disappointment. I mean how could the kid live up to what his father created in the role of Tony?

I enjoyed the prequel quite a bit. When David Chase said this was not a Tony Soprano origin story he meant it. Young Gandolfini did a fine job but Tony's development into a mob boss and the person he becomes by 1999 is just beginning so you're almost looking at two different people. There was a good emotional connection between Dickie and young Tony particularly exhibited in the last 15 minutes of the film.

Man, I am so disappointed. 3 out of 10. It was just all over the place and I felt as though it was trying to tell too many stories at the same time.

7 out of 10-a little better than I thought it would be. It could be the little references to the original (“He doesn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete”) kicked it up a notch for me. On a negative note Young Paulie was crapola-possibly impossible to cast but you’d think they could do better.

Somebody said Many Saints of Newark was a bad version of Goodfellas and American Gangster combined. That is a pretty accurate way of describing it. Too much of the movie leaned toward a bad version of American Gangster. One could argue Harold was really the main focus of the entire movie and it was a more of a back story on him then anything else.

                  That Sopranos movie was garbage.
Felt like a fan made movie at times. The “impressions” while not bad, came off to me like parodies. I will say though that that Russo guy did a great Uncle Junior.
Too bad, I thought the movie had promise, but it was a train wreck

I enjoyed it but I'm not overjoyed that Chase was talking about a sequel-he dismissed rumors about a series spinning off from the movie.

It was a heavy lift to hit this one out of the park-this was not a masterpiece.

I thought that Many Saints was good but not great. I guess the main thing that I enjoyed was just being back in the Sopranos world and I thought the casting and acting was really solid all the way around but the story was subpar.

I think it would have been much better as a series so that they could flesh the characters out more and make things fit together a little better. The reveal at the end was awesome but it could have been much better if everything didn't seem so rushed.

Watched five episodes of Succession and hit a wall with the Thanksgiving episode (#5) which really dragged.

At this point I'm not feeling it but before the Thanksgiving episode I was ready to possibly binge it based a lot on the season two reviews. Oh well, Probably not my cup of tea.

Watched the Sopranos thing last night. I didn't think it was terrible but I thought they just tried to jam too much stuff into 2 hours. Probably would have been better to have done a limited series thing like 10 hours or so.

Liotta's wife gets one glance from Harold and a few scenes later they're in bed. Yeah they tried to do too much. Gandolfini's kid was utterly forgettable and looked like the cop who went flying out of the window in Sin City.

Someone else in this thread mentioned the lameness of that storyline. Surprised David Chase came up with that idea or didn't filter it-not much got by him in the day.
