The name meant nothing to me, but I recognized him from Dateline.

I did not realize that Perry used opiates for two years after almost dying from his 2018 "burst colon "related" operation. The addict cannot escape the physical damage brought on by his continued using no matter if he eventually gets clean. This guy was going through 55 Vicodin and a fifth of vodka daily (not sure if he was doing this simultaneously). He said he doesn't remember filming seasons 3-5.
Yeah, he’s had some rough periods. It’s not what the newly board-certified doctors of Twitter want to hear, but the most likely cause of an addict dying is probably…you know, the effect of that addiction. I haven’t read his book so I don’t know how he describes it, but I just remember reading stories over the years of his troubles. Seemed like a good guy who just had a hell of a time fighting his demons.

I wonder how many people didn’t know this. I didn’t either, and it was one of those “..wait, what?” moments when my brother mentioned it.

The part here and in some other instances which people should take note of is that even though someone could be getting clean and getting help, it doesn't mean you're troubles/problems are over.

Because of what you've done in the past, it will have long term effects on your health no matter how good you take care of yourself after the fact. You can't reverse any damages done.

That sounds like what could've been the case here. He already had heart issues, which is a reason to not go into a hot tub, which combined with other health problems could've caused a heart attack which leads to drowning since you're literally surrounded by water. Not to say having a heart attack indoors or something wouldn't have lead to death either.

I didn't watch Friends, and it surprised me several years back when I heard that Chandler was most people's favorite character. He was actually the sixth name that I didn't know growing up so I assumed he was the last one on people's minds. Apparently not so.

I've only seen him in a few film roles, so I knew the face and name more than any character he played (obviously Chandler was #1 but since I didn't watch the show I had no real association with it).

Too young, and too affecting for many people who are in mourning. I'm glad they had their reunion. May he rest in peace.

I think it was mostly because his character was the most relatable of the rest of the main character, mixed in with his jokes ontop of it all.

Not as many will relate with Rachel the "pretty spoiled rich girl who adapted to normal life", Monica was the "bossy controlling one", Ross was the "smart but erratic one", Phoebe was the "free spirit", Joey was the "stupid but funny one".

Chandler was more the "down to earth guy who uses sarcasm and jokes all the time."

I seem to understand that now, which is why I didn't know his character as much. I knew who played him but for the longest time I couldn't even place his name. I didn't know what he exemplified. But you're right, I could pick out all the other ones by their one-note idiosyncrasies (I'm not calling them one-dimensional characters, by the way).

Of course, given his death, I'll likely tap into the show a little bit and see if there is still something to latch onto all these years later. I know some of the things that happened at the end, which I'm sure isn't a "spoiler" by any means. It just didn't ever grab my attention.

I was sad to see he passed, I didn't watch a huge amount of Friends but I did find him the funniest and most relatable on the show. I also saw him in a comedy once after he was done with Friends and it was quite good, I always wondered if maybe Friends had not done him any favors in regards to other roles, simply because he seemed typecast as Chandler maybe..

I do hope they ultimately find no drugs or alcohol in his system and that he died sober, but it's sad to see that once he did get his life together it ran out.

I think this should speak to all of us in how we live our lives each day.
