    Anyone else think...

A lot of people will be dissappointed w/ the first set of games on the next gen? Not to be a pessimist at all (i'll buy both when they drop and will still be playing my PS2 for online leagues) but i've see several first generation "next gen" titles over the years after NES including genesis, snes, neo-geo, PS2, dreamcast, gamecube, PS2 and xbox and the first generation of games are often a pretty big letdown in terms of gameplay -- it often takes developers a couple editions to bring their series (especially sports) up to the level they were at on the previous systems...

As for graphics i think a lot of people will be let down when these new systems hit because of all the graphics hype - the CG renders that *may* be in game play plus all the commercials (madden) etc...To be honest i dont think first gen graphics (i dont care so much i'm no graphics whore - played video game football when it was blinking dots chasing each other) on 360 or PS3 will be very different from what we have. Sure down the line theyll only get better they always do. I just think we wont see what we are expecting in gameplay and graphics right away.

No, just because there are plenty of solid titles coming out on each system at launch, including Madden. And how can you say Xbox had a letdown in terms of titles? Halo is a classic and PGR was a very very good game.

Well, the launch of the Xbox 360 will possibly have PGR3, Madden 06, NBA2K6, Gears of War, PD0, and GR3....I'm not worried one bit.

One thing you may be right about is the graphics. I can remember getting my PS2 at launch and buying the first Madden of that time. I was really disappointed with the graphics, however, over the life of the console, they've come a long ways from that first edition of Madden on PS2.

I agree, people are drooling over a lot of GC movies and Tech demos. In game graphics may come off as a dissapointment for some with the 1st gen games.

Yup, its definitely come a long way.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and will never forget how pissed I was when I got the first March Madness for the PS2, and how it didn't even have a season mode. I mean, how can you go from having a dynasty mode in the original PS to nothing at all.

I just really hope that Madden, CHoops, etc don't take out things and put them back in 2-3 years later and call it revolutionary.

Another thing to consider is how those graphics are going to translate over to the type of tv you have. Not everyone that's drooling has HDTV and it won't be close to what we're hoping for.

I just want to see IN GAME footage of games. I sick of all the FMV. I want to see Madden with little icons over their heads, I want to see Killzone with a HUD with ammo and health, etc. This looks like nothing but FMV to me.

                  WHAT!!!

I remember going to Toys R Us during the PS2s launch and I remember me and 3 other guys staring in awe over the new Madden at a kiosk. We watched the demo run over and over and over again. Comparing Madden 2000(3-d block-fest) to 2001 was like comparing McDonalds to Outback Steakhouse. The diffrence was that big.

To the original poster, you have to pessimistic if you think that you will be let down. Try to remember the times when you first unwrapped your new console. Any console from SNES to PS1 to PS2 and remember the feeling you got when you first popped that new game in(for most of us, it was a PS2 Underground disc) and you knew for a fact that your old console was going to collect dust.

As far as graphics and gameplay are concerened, I think the sheer size of the next gen games are enough for me to warrant a purchase. If those consoles can produce anywhere near the amount of detail and depth as a PC game, I'm already happy.

                    Re: Anyone else think...

We'll see- it varies from system to system. The Dreamcast launched with at least three games that were head and shoulders above anything I'd seen on any other system- NFL2K, Powerstone and Soul Caliber. The PS2 launch was Madden (which I wasn't blown away by but came to appreciate it the more I played) and SSX and very little else. The Gamecube was Rogue Leader and that's it. The Xbox was Halo and that's it (although I was a fan of Inside Drive from the beginning).

I think the fact that we're seeing so many sequels is both a strength and a weakness for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It's good in that you are getting a known experience and it's bad in that you are getting a known experience. I usually buy all the triple A titles when a system first launches, but then I settle down into my usual sports games and top of the line FPS titles. And I feel pretty confident that those types of games are going to be available from the get-go with Xbox 360.

Sure, if you were going from the PS1 to the PS2, then Madden looked great. If you were going from NFL2K1 to Madden 2001, however, it wasn't nearly as impressive.

Hmm..very good point. The Dreamcast was'nt to popular around my neiborhood. I remember playing NBA and NFL 2K1 but I did'nt get to far into those game to take notice of the graphics.

of course there are always good games (sometimes revolutionary-Halo) in the bunch that are released at launch. But there are also many many titles at launch that get hype and are terrible. That was the case with PS2...and like someone mentioned sports titles often take the biggest hit in terms of features removed and the way a game plays. That being said down the line it always improves. 3rd gen is when sports games really begin to distance themselves.

Yes, a lot of people will be disappointed for the first round of games. Take NFL2k2. It was not very good when it made its debut on Xbox. Now when you compare that title to NFL2k5, there is a huge difference. Like with any craft, the more you practice, the better you get. It is the same thing with game consoles and game developers. I would say that the real UNBELIEVABLE stuff won't start popping up until around 2007.

Nope. After people actually see the finished games, they'll be very impressed.
