XBOX 360 is NOT backwards compatible its official!

Microsoft tried to make it seem in their wording that some games would be backwards compatible but you in fact need to repurchase those games LOL.
The problem, it says, is down to hardware incompatibility - since the current Xbox uses an Intel processor, but the 360 will use IBM's PowerPC architecture, while NVIDIA's graphics solution is being replaced with an ATI one. The solution Microsoft has reached is apparently to recompiled current-gen Xbox games so that they can be played on the 360. First on the list, it says, are the best-selling Halo titles. So they will resell them for 30 bucks or so at a bargain bin price. Ridiculous. The Ps3 will play PS1, PS2, and PS2 games and they also switched processors so there is a little fibbing going on there. Perhaps they dont want their system hacked through exploits so soon.

Sony and Nintendo have already confirmed that their next-gen consoles - the PS3 and Revolution - will play all the games in their respective back catalogues, offering consumers a huge choice of titles at launch. Microsoft was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.

LOL at MS. All they had to do was pay Nvidia a little royalty and they would have had backwards compatibility on the 360.

I really dont care. I still have my xbox, and to be honest, with the new games coming out, I probably wont play it too much anyhow.

You have a link saying they will definitely be reselling them?

I have not seen any confirmation of anything like a $30 price.

They will not make people re-purchase games. That would be the most assanine thing ever. There will probably be some sort of download over xbox live to enable the game to work. I honestly don't think they even know yet.

We couldn’t find the page you were looking for.

It doesn't say for sure whether or not they are reselling them, but it hints at it.

Why would people repurchase them when they could just hook up the old xbox if they felt like playing? Do people really play their old games that often? I don't see this as a huge deal. I didn't play a single ps1 game after I got my ps2. Maybe i'm in the minority though.

I agree but microsoft looks dumb trying to slip this one by while the other 2 systems are covered.

The only backwards compatability I care about is the Nintendo back catalogue. If the price is right I'll be picking the system up based on that.

I would buy a Halo 1/2 package that featured full online play for both games with all the maps.

Backwards compatabilty is only important early in a consoles life-cycle, once a decent number of games are available for a new system it becomes a non-issue.

Yeah ... the first Xbox wasn't backwards-compatible, either.

Ive never understood why people are concerned with backwards compatibility. Just keep your Xbox....

BTW, it IS stupid that MS is trying to be sly about it.

I agree. It's a minor issue, but it helps add to the impression that Microsoft is having a poor E3 showing.

Incidentally, I'm not sure that a poor E3 showing is all that big of a deal, provided the Xbox 360 brings the goods come launch time. E3 has negligible impact on sales, and the hyping that takes place there is for the benefit of a small segment of the gaming community.
