I don't think it sucked, although it wasn't great.

The problem lies that it was hyped up to greatness as Halo and it didn't deliver.

I don't think it sucked either. I think the problem with the original had to do with the controls, but overall it wasn't a bad game.

My friend gave me the original Killzone a couple months ago for free. I never played it though because what he didn't tell me was that the disc is broken. He said it was a really good game...I'm hearing mixed reviews on it.

the game itself was not bad. The problem was the developers were a little to ambitious for the PS2 hardware. While I was playing it had bad slowdown and I was saying in my head "This would be better on xbox". Seems like the power on the PS3 is perfect for these guys.

Definitely utilizing the PS3's full capabilities, unlike any other game we've seen to this day.

              EDGE Review - 7

Smart and nimble, ‬the Helghast like nothing more than someone foolish enough to hide. ‬This intimate, ‬sizzling combat feels a lot like that of FEAR, ‬but is actually more like another game of the time: Criterion's Black.

It shares that laudable desire to see you through a level without fuss, ‬hindered only by the constant fear of a fatal mistake. ‬A gun game in the truest sense, ‬its bullets and ragdolls offer a literal take on the 'theatre' ‬of war, ‬a rare pleasure since GoldenEye.

And it gets extraordinary mileage from piling lots of bodies into simple spaces, ‬letting cutting-edge AI do the rest. ‬A quasi-tactical shooter, ‬its action rivals any in Stalker or COD4.

But without the first game's ambiguities, ‬a sense of humour or even an ounce of ‬intrigue, ‬its story stinks. ‬It's so slight you could play the levels in random order to ‬little ill-effect, ‬and it assumes knowledge of everything and everyone, ‬not once recognising the real-world echoes of its premise: ‬an allied invasion of an enemy ‬the allies themselves created. ‬Instead, ‬it settles for the opening act of Starship Troopers via Aliens and Saving Private Ryan, ‬as if they were somehow fresher than Long John Silver's toenails.
Freed of its narrative shackles, ‬Killzone 2's deathmatches openly celebrate the tight controls (jumping now included) ‬hand-made environments and technical beauty of a ‬game that is, ‬almost exclusively, ‬about popping someone in the face or blowing them to kingdom come.

Separate development of the multiplayer modes has paid dividends, ‬the badge and perks systems adding distinctive RPG flavour to a uniquely hardcore team-based experience.

First impressions might be that everyone's dying all of the time, ‬but perseverance pays off. ‬Thanks largely to its online play, ‬Killzone 2 ‬should find itself a fanbase no one can overlook. ‬In singleplayer, ‬it's a testament to craft and imagination, ‬if only because one is so immaculate while the other barely exists. ‬It fights a great battle, ‬it's just a shame about the war.

The rather funny editorial (because it is SO ridiculous) by PSX, needs to be linked after the EDGE review.

I actually liked the Edge Review.....They are just taking Flack because they didn't give it a 9.7 out of 10 like everyone else. The same thing happened to Halo 3. Everyone was giving it 9.5's and one company gave it a 7 or 8 and got lots of **** for it. IMO Halo should of got a 8-9 but no higher. People just write most of these reviews to please fan bases so they will read thier reviews alot more, especially with the high hype releases.

I could care less about reviews anymore. I've played the demo and it's solid. So I'm sure the final product will be just as great if not better. So I'm confident in it when it is released.

I agree, I just thought the PSX editorial was too humorous not to link to.

Most rating numbers are worthless anyway. I remember reading a game getting a 7 from some reviewers, I can't remember which publisher, but the game was bashed so much and considered average and what not. Rarely do you see games in the range of 1-7, unless they're crap. What's the point of a number of system if you can't use the ratings to distinguish bad from poor? Poor from average? Good from Great? Etc? A lot of games get clumped up between 7.0 and 9.5, even if some are really light years better than others.
