Re: Dead Rising Hands-On (Xbox 360)
I found this set of impressions from a gamer that I have spoken to over XBOX LIVE, and he like this game.
"First off, let me say that I know people are going to ge tthe wrong impression of the game right away, just because the demo is so limited. No missions, and only one section of the mall hardly let you know the true depth of the game, which in contrast is quite large.
That being said, let's get to the nitty gritty.
The demo puts you in Paradise Plaza, one of the smaller sections of the mall. However, there are over 20 stores on 2 floors to explore. Numerous weapons are a your disposal, and though there isn't much of it in this section of the mall, there IS food to eat to restore your health.
One thing I want to speak of is the physics engine used in this game. No, it isn't Havok, but there is indeed physics. I call this type of physics engine "the domino effect". Zombies knock into eachother, fall down stairs, and trip over things. Items you throw at them can take out one zombie, who falls into another zombie, who might fall through a storefront window. Quite simply, this game doesn't need ragdoll. The domino effect is good enough for me. It made me laugh to see zombies falling down the stairs!
Another thing is the weaponry. Each weapon has multiple attack styles with it. Usually a press move, a press and hold move, and a throw move. Each weapon feels and acts differently, though they all break or run out of ammo after a certain time.
The interactivity in the mall is stunning. Every store has something you can use or wear or both. To make for some interesting photos, lure zombies into a restaraunt, then throw a large item like a bench into them. the ensuing carnage makes a great photo.
Another thing that impressed me is the fact that the zombies stay on the ground after you kill them. I half expected to see them dissapear when too many pile up. That is not the case. I had a great photo in which I lured zombies all into the same area and created a pile of corpses. I had 3 erotics in one shot and had no clue where the wenches were! (NOTE: Some weapons that cause major damage WILL make the bodies dissapear. One example is the Katana. Enemies killed by the Katana won't even get head-counted in a photo.)
One thing I can complain about right now is the stupid crap Frank spews out when he is hurt. he curses like a sailor CONSTANTLY until you feed him. The sad thing is, his vocabulary is limited. It is only one small drawback to an otherwise enthralling experience!
4 days away guys, and this is just a tease. This is an early version that really doesn't show the depth of the entire game. There is a time limit, the demo will end at 7pm...and if you leave the area, the demo ends. However, that does not mean it has to be short. There are hundreds of zombies to kill, and some really fun photos you can take. I played for almost an hour just goofing around with weapons and photos. When your time is up, just restart!"Last edited by CaptainZombie; 08-04-2006, 11:14 AM.Comment

Re: Dead Rising Hands-On (Xbox 360)
I am going to have to agree with those impressions. Played through the demo twice, first time was done in 3 minutes (Get to Movie World and you see a very cool cutscene), and the second time just played with things in the mall. I can already see what my plans with this game will be - create as many funny moments as possible. Looks like you can really set up some great stuff.
As for stories/missions, they are arranged as 'case files', which there are numerous branches you could go. The demo starts with a cutscene in the middle of one of these case files. Pretty cool.
This just turned into a buy for me...Comment

EDIT - I now know why, it's near the Ohio border. I guess I never put Monroeville, PA or OH into my thought process. And I always assumed it was filmed here. http://www.monroevilleohio.com/

Originally posted by HolicMan, my 360 died, and Dead Rising in 4 days. Geez, do I go buy a back up 360 and sell my repaired one?
I almost thought the same at one point of selling mine and buying one from the store with a warranty, like Scott said you can walk right in and get another one instead of waiting 2 weeks.Comment

Originally posted by candyman56Holic, is this your second 360 from MS? I've read way too much of people getting 2 to even 4 systems back from MS refurbs and they just die out on them.

Originally posted by HolicI'm thinking I could buy a Core for $300, and sell the refurb I get back. Very tempting, cause I got Dead Rising paid in full already.Comment

Re: Dead Rising Hands-On (Xbox 360)
I was dissapointed. This is one of those games I'd get for PS2 toss on infinte ammo/lasting weapons and health CB codes and have a blast with. Can't do that with this, well unless there's in game codes but I don't think any game with Capcom's name on it has ever done that. Not enough effective weapons and they run out way too quickly wich in turn makes it rather difficult,I got like 10 kills out of the katana,if the whole game could be played with that it'd be awesome. Aiming controls are horrible and I thought PDZ was fine. Noticeable slowdown too. Maybe I was expecting too much.
There's three other cutscenes besides the movie and time's up one.
Still might give it a rent since there looks to be some pretty cool story stuff going on but I'm not buying it on this, maybe if it was on PS2 but that won't happen.Last edited by goh; 08-04-2006, 05:40 PM.Comment
