Re: Next-gen leaders talk about their consoles
Originally posted by VictoryI would be totally stunned if the 360 had anything better than standard DVD. It is coming out in 5 months. There are no High Def DVD players of any sort on the market at all. They just don't have time to get that in there.
The only reason that Sony can do it is that it is:
1. PS3 is not coming out until 2006
2. Blu-Ray is their own format
3. They are willing to lose money including it in the PS3 in order to help establish Blu-Ray.Comment

Re: Next-gen leaders talk about their consoles
Originally posted by mgobluemy understanding was that MS could sell an upgrade if needed, that's what I've gotten out of the whole "MS waiting on HD DVD" thing...and you're damn right about Sony's decision making, if Blu-Ray wasn't theirs I doubt they'd use anything right now.
Just from looking at this gen if anyone is looking at Blu-Ray and the possibility of larger games being a main selling point for PS3 games is probably going to be disappointed. To me any add-on for the 360 would likely turn out to be a waste of money. Get a High-Def player instead of the add-on so that you can watch a movie in one room and play the 360 in another (although for full effect you would need two HDTV's...) or shell out more $$$ get a PS3 as well and be able to play exclusives on both systems (probably what I will end up doing). I just can't imagine there being too many must have 360 games that have great extra features for those with the High Def player expansion.Memory Cards are the devil!Comment

Originally posted by luv_mistHow long would it take for them to get it in there? I don't exactly know when it was discovered or made public but I wouldn't see why it couldn't work. They probably don't have the drive in their systems just yet. How long would it take for them to put it in and then make those systems in mass amounts to ship all over the world? I see it being a possibility. One thing that I do know is that you can format that drive to read whatever you want it to as long as you have a good application program and a great way to download it. Microsoft seems to have that knowledge already which only makes me wonder....Memory Cards are the devil!Comment

Re: Next-gen leaders talk about their consoles
Victory, I agree, and personally I don't think HD capability will be that big a deal for this upcoming generation of consoles...it's the PS4/Xbox 3whatever where it's going to be huge IMO. Not that many people actually have HDTV's right now, and it'll take 3ish years for the prices to come down enough where they even start to become commonplace. As for the people that have HDTV's right now, they'll agree with you and get a HD DVD player that's a hell of a lot better than any video game console would give you. This is just my opinion, but HDtv domination is still a bit off.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Next-gen leaders talk about their consoles
When do ya'll expect to have the PS4 and XBOX 3 come out? We're just now embarking on these new systems. I personally don't see those systems coming out for damn near a decade. These systems are made to have that good life within them. Technology is jumping further everytime it puts its foot down. The life from PS1 to PS2 was shorter than PS2 to PS3 wasn't it? If I'm wrong correct me. I seriously don't know, but I suspect that it was. Honestly, I really can't see these systems losing their full lifespan which is at least 8+ years in my opinion. Maybe even more. I mean, look at those graphics. Remember that these consoles have no games on it. New companies will arise and old ones will fall. With these transitions, we will get those new games utilizing the systems potential to a greater power than the previous consoles.Comment
