Re: PS3 to ship without HDD?
For those who are betting their "chips" on PS3 being the better deal. Honestly, this is still not affecting my choice of 360 as my first next-gen console. Hey, that's how the cookie crumbles. Sony sees people who are willing to make that purchase and are sticking them in their pocket books. Microsoft just has it while Sony doesn't....Originally posted by Victory -
Re: PS3 to ship without HDD?
The more I think about this the stranger it seems and the harder it is for me to believe that it might be true. Sony is including a Blu-Ray DVD and two video outs but not a hard drive? Does that make any sense? Just step back and think about that for a second. Which of these three features is most likely to be used by developers and gamers? I am not complaining about the other two features. Believe me, I am more than willing to pay more for superior hardware if developers will actually use it. I love the thought of a golf game on a Blu-Ray DVD with 100 courses in it. But will developers actually do that? I still think its a few years away. And who has two HDTV's to use two video outs?
Now look at the hard drive. Why do we have limited rosters in NCAA? So saves don't take up too much space. Why can't we have Gameday type shows with highlights and conversations about the stuff in SI? Why can't we have more player ratings and instead have everything and its bother lumped into a single awareness rating.....
But even assuming that developers still wouldn't use it you still can't get around the fact that being able to save as many games as you want as being a great use of a harddrive. How many people do you know that have had to start over in an RPG because a bug or a regrettable decision made the game impossible or nearly impossible to win but they had already saved over all their old saves. I was sick of the constant "Should I save now or shouldn't I? What should I overwrite, will I ever play that game agiain? Can I erase its saves?" type of thoughts in the PS1 days. This last reason is the biggest reason, really the only reason, why I don't use my PS2 anymore. It ruins the experience for me.
As you can probably tell from my sig this really eliminates all the enthusiam I had about the prospects for gaming on the PS3. If it doesn't have a standard harddrive I am POSITIVE that I won't be getting one. But the more I think about it the harder it is for be to believe that this is actually true because it just doesn't make any sense.Memory Cards are the devil!Comment

Re: PS3 to ship without HDD?
This doesn't really confirm anything but:
"We're not going to equip [the PS3 with] a HDD by default, because no matter how much [capacity] we put in it, it won't be enough." It was unclear whether he was referring to the previously known fact that the PS3 would not have an internal hard drive or whether he was indicating that the device would not come with the external 2.5-inch detachable HDD outlined in the specs revealed at E3.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
