I've only really played 4 and being the lazy bastard I am I haven't even finished that one. Still somewhere in ACT 3. Ashley needs to learn how to stop getting captured.... BTW, Hunk is the man (I think that's his name).

I thought the trailer was awesome. It looks like RE4 on steroids. The graphics are really impressive.

Also, I think this trailer confirms the co-op rumor.

Yea it seems to be pretty much confirmed.

I'm not much of a graphics whore, and even with the current-gen classic bland color palette the game still looked amazing. I saw a few things in there that really got me excited to -- blowing up a bridge from afar and having more level to level battling specifically -- but a lot of the trailer was repackaged from the original trailer.

PS I'm all for the end of trailers doing more of the flashing the credits of those involved and so forth like some Japanese games are doing now.

It's a series based on zombies and parasites.

I liked the trailer, and I'm going to buy it because RE is easily my favorite series behind MGS, but hopefully they'll find a way to keep it fresh. A lot of it looked like RE4, and I hope it's not just RE4 with new backgrounds like RE3 was to RE2.

I also kind of miss the classic zombies. These new dudes make for a more interesting fight and RE4 was easily the best gameplay of the series, but I enjoyed the story and atmosphere of 1, 2, 3, CV, and 0 far more than the new location. Hopefully they'll incorporate a little more of that in.

Or in a perfect world, give us a remake of RE2 with the new controls.

IGN: First Look

The new Resident Evil 5, shown for a glorious 10 minutes at Capcom's '08 Gamers' Day, sees Redfield hunting down the origins of the Progenitor Virus. This is the RE that promises to give definitive answers. Yes, you will know the secrets behind the origin of the Progenitor Virus by the time you complete RE5.

Now 60% complete, Resident Evil 5 appears on track for an early 2009 release on both PS3 and Xbox 360. Capcom showed off one of the early sections of the game, which sees Chris Redfield in a small town surrounded by hostile villagers. It's an obvious parallel to the first town in RE4, but serves as a way to easily note some of the contrasts between the two titles.

For one thing, this area is four times the size as the village from RE4. And more importantly, it showcases the high level of destructibility in the environment.

Though RE5 uses similar gameplay mechanics as the previous iteration, there's definitely more mobility this time around. As Redfield attempted to escape the mob, we saw him climb to a roof, leap onto a broken down bus, and eventually take sanctuary in another building. While nothing about RE5 says "run-and-gun" there does appear to be a slightly faster pace, more ways to approach enemies, more places to hide and more room to maneuver.

And you will want to maneuver, because the AI has grown smarter. If you have a laser sight on your shotgun, for example, and aim it at an enemy, they will dive out of the way. So while the laser sight helps with aim, it finally has a penalty -- your enemy knows when you are aiming at his junk.

What's impressive is the level of detail in RE5. Chris has a knife in a scabbard strapped to his back that bounces with his movements. You can see strands of hair moving as he turns his head. When injured, you'll see blood trickling down a sleeve or Redfield's forehead. Even the enemies, who could be primetime players in the latest House on Haunted Hills Have Eyes of a Stranger slasher flick are beautifully grotesque in their detail. You can see far into the distance if you get atop one of the buildings and, as we said before, there's a lot more packed into the environment. Gears of War 2 and Killzone 2 are going to have some competition for best-looking game of this generation.
