Re: For Those Of You Not Getting a Launch XBOX360

    1. i don't feel like dropping $500-$600 on a new system (games, peripherals, etc.)

    2. none of the launch games justify that price IMO

    3. i'm still enjoying the current gen stuff-MVP '05, NCAA '06, MADDEN '06, and will be getting NBA Live, March Madness, SOCOM III, etc.

Of course, we will have acceptable migrated titles from other platforms, but consider how long it took with the last generation of games before game developers/publishers started to really take advantage of the systems. This is a simple fact that applies to almost all general purpose computer hardware advances and supporting operatons systems and applications. As I stated, there will be a few exceptions, but they tend to be developers/companies that were involved with the programming tools, hardware and libraries before the general developer community has access.

Sorry to ramble on. As a gamer, I consider myself fortunate to be alive during these times.
I think you raise a good point. That's something that my mind never really ran on. I think the going assumption is that next-gen games will come flying out of the box and onto the screen in true-to-life form. That may happen down the road, but not necessarily right away.

I don't think I'm getting one but might be. I chose other.
There's nowhere to preorder it here and I'm NOT waiting in a line for 16 hours.

I have other priorities, but if Oblivion absolutely does not work on my new pc, then I might consider xbox 360, other than that, I don't really care for it. I might test it out at friends' houses and such, but there's nothing that really interests me from it. I might not even care for PS3 either. I wanna focus on my PC and keep upgrading it.

Re: For Those Of You Not Getting a Launch XBOX360

            Few reasons...

            1. Launch games - The Xbox didn't have a particularly strong launch in terms of software and I don't expect the 360 to. Systems launches are usually better with companies known for their first party software and Microsoft isn't one of them (just like Sony wasn't when they launched the PS2, which had crap for software).

            2. System Defects - not really expecting any, but it could happen.

            3. Playstation 3 - I wanna see what the PS3 is like. The games might be better, the hardware might be better, and I have far more PS games than Xbox ones so there's some incentive there (since its backwards compatible and I only intend to get one console for at least a good while). Plus, you know there will be some kind of promotion for the 360 when the PS3 is launched next year, be it a price drop or some kind of bundle. And by then better games will probably be coming out. The second generation titles are always superior to the first generation ones because they were in development longer and the developers took the time to become familiar with the system's development kits.

            4. Price - I could swing 400, but it would be insanely irresponsible of me, a college student who only works 12 hours a week for 7.25 an hour. There are more important things to video games...

            5. Which brings me to number 5, which is that I just have been really jaded with games lately. I bought God of War maybe a month and a half ago, and while its a great game I just have no desire to play it. Its the same way with every game I've purchased in the last year (except Paper Mario, RE4, and MGS3). I'd rather go out and be social than stay in my apartment playing videogames. And most of my game time is spent watching baseball and between that, homework, class, work, and social time, there just isn't room for video games. I can easily survive with my current gen consoles for awhile.

Re: For Those Of You Not Getting a Launch XBOX360

I'm still looking forward to current gen games like Fahrenheit (aka Indigo Prophecy), Far Cry Instincts and the 2006 soccer games...and the latter will keep me busy for half a year at least.

I also voted "other" because the release date for XBOX 360 here in Australia still hasn't been announced (sometime in early 2006; many are predicting March) and the price for either release package is again TBA.

I'll probably wait till Xmas 2006 before getting one, but i'm planning to spend the 2006 calender year stocking up on Gamecube games that i've missed out on instead.

I'm going to wait. I'm going through that gaming funk, where nothing is holding my attention past a couple of weeks. My last few purchases (NCAA, Madden, GTA: SA, Forza, Splinter Cell: CT) are all either traded in or sitting on my DVD rack, unfinished. They are all good games, but I just don't feel particularly compelled to play them. The 360 will probably re-energize me for gaming, but I will wait until there are more titles available. That'll give me more time to save up.

Well, I've only owned my XBox just over a yaer, so it still has a lot of life left for me, easily another year. I can see myself waiting until next XMas to pick up a 360, if it's worth the dough. It's too expensive right now, to me.

So, I'll wait first, for reactions, and then a price drop.

I am waiting till the PS3 comes out to make a decision, I had my heart set on the 360 but several factors have swayed my decision:

-The 360 not including a hard drive standard, even as an option most developers will not develop with the hard drive in mind. I was hoping this would be an advantage the 360 would have on the PS3
-No next generation media format from the start, HD-DVD or Blueray. I think certain genre of next gen games will easily fill a standard dual layer DVD, especially when you throw in high-def FMV and large environments many RPG's will have. I want to be as future proof as possible
-Madden 360 - I am a football gamer first, every other genre is filler. If a system does not have a great football game at launch I can be more patient, unless there is another game in the lineup that is a must have. Madden 360 appears to be a mere graphical uprgrade to '06. While I love Madden '06, I don't need 2 versions. There is nothing else so far is the 360 line-up that makes me say I have to have that at launch. Unless VC suprises me with an amazing football game, I will be patient.
-I have many Xbox games I have yet to play.
-If I get the PS3 I will be able to play great PS2 games that I have missed out on like God of War and I Love Katamari. So it's kinda like buying 2 systems.
-I can use the money and buy a nice headunit for my car.

Right now I am leaning toward the PS3, even though I like the 360 controller much better. I will wait and see, I will probably change my mind several times, especially when the 360 comes out.

I'm waiting on impressions and it's not a priority right now.

I don't think I've ever purchased a console right when it came out. I typically wait a few months or even longer. I don't play that many games to begin with and it's really not worth it to get one immediately. All I'd do is play older games on it so I'm not really gaining anything by purchasing the console at launch.

I'll probably wait until baseball season before picking up the 360. That is unless there's something I play that will be on the 360, that's REALLY good and that comes out before then.

Price: All the games and and add-on's can easily put you well beyond $500. That's like 4-5 months of car insurance.

Shady: Wireless controller used to be standard, now it's premium. For $50 it doesn't even come with the play/charge kit, so it can cut off at a bad time. To me corded controllers are not acceptable next-gen, and neither are "memory cards"..

Games: So-so launch titles with weak exclusives. DOA4 is cool, but we just got DOA:U. Do we need another one already? What I mean is many of the games except Oblivion don't stand out from a crowded pack.

Backwards Compatibility: Many people will buy 1 game, maybe 2 games max and rent stuff here and there for the first few months. It also would of enabled people to finally get that big thing out of the way and shave the price off of the extra crap you need. So I'm not happy it's not going to be a real option.

Current-gen games: So many games are out there, and cheap to boot. There's nothing wrong with these games.

                              Three reasons for me:

                              1) The price is a bit steep tho luckily since my mother works at a retail store i'll get a discount.

                              2) I want to see what others are saying about the X360. I'd like to see if it's truly worth all the hype being shoved down our throats

                              3) Finally I want to see what exactly Sony has to offer. I want to make a well educated purchase this time around.
